I pushed myself through the hole and helped Sam shimmy the camera through. The four of us now stood in this empty space under the stairs. Or should I say, almost empty.
There was a large black...something sitting in the middle of the room. It looked old and slightly dusty, but other than that, completely in tact. According to Matt, it was a server.
"Wait, where have I heard that before?" I muttered.
"What do you mean?" Matt asked.
"No, not me, us. We've heard that before."
"What, server?" Woods said.
""Server not found"," Matt and I said at the same time.
"The Syntec site," Sam said softly.
We immediately knew what we needed to do. After climbing back out, we followed Matt on his search for an Ethernet cable. A couple bins later, he found one. Sam unlocked an office and Matt unplugged the computer, plugging in the cable. Then, we ran it from there to the server rack. All the while, Matt was explaining what he was doing and how this could all be connected.
"Deb had to trust that we'd be here...connecting this?"
Matthew hunched over the server, the rest of us peeked through the hole.
"Ok, I'm turning it on."
A soft, electrical buzz filled my ears as lights began to glow green. I looked between Sam and Woods, then Matt. It was working.
"Should we go check the site?" I asked, backing up.
"Yeah, let's go." Matt said, stepping out from the hole.
We made our way across the courtyard and to MegaOffice. The quiet hum of the computer sang as Sam, Woods and I situated ourselves on the MegaChairs. In a matter of minutes, the site was up. Matt's fingers flew over the keys as he typed in the password.
"We ready?" He asked, looking at us.
"Yeah," the three of us responded.
The enter key clicked. A new screen popped up.
"We're in."
"Yes!" I cried, looking at the new information on screen.
It was Root. It asked for a directory. Matt types in "Pegasus". A minute later, all the Pegasus files popped up. We basically had the Apple II.
"This is it, guys." Matt said, waving the mouse over the files. "And look, we weren't able to see the confirmed subjects file, and the..."
"The AVI file," I murmured, eyes searching the screen.
"Oh yeah, the one we could never open." Sam piped up.
"Where is it?" I asked, seeing as it wasn't there.
"I've got a bad feeling about this," Matt said, clicking the refresh button.
The screen flashed for a moment before reloading only five files as apposed from six.
"The file we were just looking at is gone!" I cried.
Matt sighed. "Guys, this is Syphus's account. He's deleting files."
"What?" Sam and Woods said. I held my head in disbelief.
"What can we do?"
"I'm gonna try something." Matt mumbled, clicking through options.
He enabled user accounts and made his own with his email. He signed in and used Syphus's account to make himself an admin. The screen was changing every 5 seconds. The constant click of the keys rang in my brain. Matt signed back out of Syphus's account and back into his, now an admin. He then went to the options tab. He clicked on the account list, revealing two names: his and Syphus's. With one final click, it was done. Syphus's account was disabled.
