Erin's POV
I walked through the door from the garage and into the kitchen. The house was something I hadn't imagined. It didn't seem to white and it was quite large considering the size of the kitchen at my dad's house. The lights seemed to be dimly lit and there was a brown island in the middle of the kitchen and the dark hardwood floors seemed to shine against my black combat boots. The counters were marble and there was three little lamps dangling above the island along with three stools placed on the other side of it.
When we walked into the next room I started to miss that homey feeling of the beautiful kitchen when I saw all the marble floors and white bland walls. Neil and I followed him through the house taking in all the details of its plainness. All in all, the house was quite empty but very nice. There were 8 bathrooms 12 bedrooms, a game room, home theatre, and a garage that fit 25 cars inside. It was very impressive if I must say.
He showed all of us, including the car crew to separate rooms where we would rest when it came to and showed me as well as Neil where his sleeping quarters were in case there was ever to be an emergency.
We all unpacked and got settled and by the time we finished dinner was prepared and waiting in the dining room.
We entered the dining room and a man and two other women were placing plates on the table. They glanced our way but brushed us off and continued setting everything up except one who lingered a little while longer looking at me. When her eyes finally reached my face, she returned back to her task and shortly after reentered the kitchen. Something seemed off about her but I shrugged it off and ate my meal. Once we finished I assigned the guards to checking the premises and that when they finished, they could turn in for the night. I changed into a white tee and some overalls so I wouldn't ruin my clothes and went into the garage to work on the beauty queen.
I had it up on the lift and was checking every piece of equipment on the vehicle. The guys went to bed about an hour after finishing the checkup leaving me alone with it. I was preparing to replace the exhaust pipe with a new twin turbo muffler when I heard someone come into the garage.
"What are you doing up so late?" Derek asked.
"I could ask you the same thing." I replied setting the tool down on the tool chest and turning to face him.
He was shirtless and wore some loose fighting pajama pants, that didn't leave much for the imagination. His hair was tussled from running his hand through it so many times it made him look like he had bed head. This very sexy man stood in front of me with all his beauty and I couldn't even touch him... hmm, what a shame.
I saw him shift a little and that brought me out of my dreamy haze to realize that I had just insinuated that I wanted to touch his body in a way a body guard shouldn't. What was wrong with me? I abruptly turned away from him avoiding his eyes and keeping mines from wandering and started to move to the back of the car.
I was taking the muffler off and was about to grab the pipe cutter but it was too far away. I wanted to let the muffler hang but there was a chance that I could break off unevenly and I needed to be right. I was going to reattach the muffler back when Derek came around with the cutter and handed it to me.
I smiled at him gratefully then took the tool from him turning back to balance the muffler in one hand and the cutter in the other. He must've noticed my silent struggle because he came up behind me and pushed my body slowly from underneath the muffler to replace it with his own.
He gestured for me to continue so I did. We continued working silently him handing me tools and me putting the new exhaust up.
"What do you do anyway?" I asked out of sheer curiosity.
"I am a CEO of my own company." He said while placing the cutoff muffler onto the table.
"Yeah?" I asked and he nodded for his reply "What does your company do?"
"Stock market stuff. Just selling and buying and making profits." He said handing me another tool to continue with the job we were doing.
"Well that's impressive. So you must be like... what? 38?" I asked confused because he didn't even look a day over 30.
He chuckled at my question shaking his head with a smile that could melt any woman's heart. "No. I'm 29."
"And you own your own company?" I questioned in disbelief.
"Yeah, my dad turned it over to me when he started traveling a lot more." He said with a sad smile. I wanted to ask him more about it but didn't want to pry so I kept my mouth shut and deciding on changing the subject.
"Hey, can you help me with this?" I asked "I don't think I can hold it by myself." I gestured towards the twin muffler.
"Yeah" he said looking in a better mood. We finished the job and made sure it was on there right with an extra help from his strength on tightening the ring on it.
"Thanks, I don't think I could've done that job alone." I said to him making my way to the door leading into the house.
"You're welcome. Glad I could be useful." He said as we entered the kitchen.
"Well I'm going to hit the shower and get some sleep." I told him making my way down the hall to my room.
"Okay. Goodnight, Erin" he responded using my name for the first time then walking away into his own bedroom.
But before he could get to far away I whispered a quick "Goodnight" back disappearing from his sight completely.
