One Week Ago
I woke to an alarm blaring in my ear and all my senses on high alert. I really didn’t like how this week was starting and knew something was bound to happen soon but I still pushed on. I rolled out of bed and turned on the shower. I stared at the familiar face in the mirror and couldn’t help but feel a little shitty. Last night was my dad’s celebration dinner on coming home and I kind of went off on him about not calling and writing to me and he got a bit madder than I was and said some really hurtful things.
I was expecting him to be more considerate but he did make a point in not calling because he was too busy controlling the base. I walked out of the bathroom with a towel around my body and my hair dripping wet. I looked for the phone I heard ringing only a second ago and knew it had to be someone I knew. It was still six o’clock in the morning and the only one I knew that would know I was up this early was my dad or my best friend Lyndsey.
I found my phone behind my couch, right where I left it when I came home and threw it at the wall. My father’s military buddy was just like an uncle I never had and he always had my back but last night he told me I was wrong and I didn’t want to hear that at the moment. Picked up the phone to see my dad’s face on the screen. I answered not wanting to argue about last night and just wanting to apologize.
“Hi, dad” I said a little hesitant
“Erin,” he said also a little reluctant
“I just wanted to say I was sorry for last night I had no right to do that to you, and disrespect you like that I’m really sorry dad.” I said as quickly as my mouth would let me.
“I am also sorry sweetheart, I said some things that were really shitty of me to say to my own daughter and I was just taking the anger out on you that I actually had on myself..” he said almost hearing the tearfulness in his voice.
“It’s okay, we were both wrong, I just want to get over it.” I said a little smile forming upon my lips.
“Me too. So would you like to have some lunch today because I need to talk to you about a few things…”
“Sure, what time?”
“Around 11:30 at the diner by the highway?” he asked questioning if that was okay.
“Yeah, it’s fine with me.” I said giving him confirmation
“Alright see you later then.”
“Yeah, bye.”
I hung up smiling ear to ear knowing me and my dad’s relationship was going to be just fine. I finished dressing and put my dark brown hair in a messy bun and swung my satchel over my shoulder. I wore faded worn out jeans and a grey tank top and half buttoned up shirt over that with my grey converse.
I walked out of my apartment and locked my door. Every time I seemed to walk out my door my very flirtacious neighbor seemed to as well. He stepped out of his door with dark denim jeans and a very tight grey pull over shirt and black cargo boots. He turned around after locking his door and approached me.
“Hey, you look quite delicious today, EB.”
EB was my nickname for Erin Bello and I only allowed close friends to call me that but ever since Lyndsay accidently said my nickname in front of him, he can’t seem to keep it out of his mouth.
“I told you never to call me that, my name is Erin to you, so don’t forget it.” I said with attitude.
“Fine, only if you go out with me on Tuesday” he states with confidence
