Y/N POV:

I put the black, discreet car in park and switch it off, unbuckling myself and stepping out of the driver's side door. I close the door and lock the car, dropping my car keys back in my pocket and sitting down on a tree stump. I pull out my phone and turn the brightness down to keep myself more hidden under the shadows from the dark wooded branches of the outer trees. I search through my recent call list and find the number of the sheriff of the nearby small town's police force. I tap on it and call the number again, lifting my phone up to my ear.

"This is Sheriff Louis Clinton speaking. How may I help you?"

"Hello, Sir. It's Y/N again."

"Ah, I was expecting you to call back soon. Did you get it yet?"

"Not yet. I was actually calling to confirm the award amount for capturing this creature."

"Alrighty, let me pull up the report really quickly in the system..."

The sound of keys typing goes through my phone speaker for a few seconds before Louis speaks again.

"According to the report, the reward is $50,000 (or whatever the equivalent of that is in your country's currency, if you live in a different country)."

"Okay, thank you, Sheriff. I'll call you back when I manage to capture the thing."

"No problem. Bye bye."

"Bye."

I end the call and drop my phone into one of my back pockets, unlocking my car again to pull out my bag with my hunting supplies. I unzip it to reveal weapons, ropes, and other items one might need to capture and/or take out a monster of any size or level of lethality. After a couple moments of thinking, I decide to make this mission simple for myself and only bring a gun.

I mean... the reward is only $50,000, so it can't be that bad. Normally, if a monster is a particularly big problem, the reward amount would be through the roof.

I slip my pistol into the holster on my belt and close the bag, putting my supply bag back in its designated place in my car. I relock my car and turn to face the entrance of the dense forest with a determined grin, not hesitating for another second before calmly beginning to make my way inside. I shift my laser-focused gaze around each side of me, my footsteps practically silent as I keep my years of self-training in mind for every step.

It's oddly quiet... Wait, no. I can't let that fool me. Silence is almost always a trap.

Just as I internally remind myself of one of the main lessons of my training for this profession, I hear the sound of a stick breaking from some ways away. Telling myself it's likely just some sort of animal, I move on unfazed, moving more confidently now that my eyes are better adjusted to the lack of light in the forest. As I continue to venture through the tenebrous woods, my hearing becomes more keen due to the silence that has filled my surroundings thus far.

"Hey!"

I hear the voice and go completely still, my eyebrows furrowing in focus as I attempt to determine the potential source of the sound. After a few moments, I realize it almost sounds like...

A person?

After a few seconds of going over my current options, I ultimately decide to help whoever was yelling.

I should at least warn them that being out here right now is dangerous.

I make sure to stay silent out of caution, slowly creeping toward the direction of where the noise came from.
