Zach's POV

The next day we spent the day sorting everything out while all the girls were trying to keep Nichelle and Amira distracted and calm.

Finally later at night we finally were able to breathe a lil bit, we had barely settled into the living room when the doorbell rang, not once, but three sharp, urgent times.

My whole body tensed. Nichelle stiffened beside me.

George immediately moved toward the door like he was expecting a shoot-out.
"It's the police," I said when I checked the camera feed.

But even that didn't make anyone relax.
I opened the door, and two officers stood there, the same ones who handled Vanessa's arrest.

Their expressions were tight... almost apologetic.

"Mr. Anderson," Officer Reyes said. "We need to speak with you and your family immediately."
I stepped aside, letting them in. Everyone else close.

Reyes cleared his throat.

"There's been a development regarding Vanessa Kelly."

Nichelle's breath hitched. "What kind of... development?"

The second officer, Briggs, took off his hat, never a good sign.

"Ms. Kelly escaped custody earlier this morning."

Jeffrey let out a slow whistle. "Boy... ain't no way."

Danny thrown his hands up. "How she keep getting loose like she's Houdini?! This is a grown woman with a long hair, not David Blaine!"
The officers didn't crack a smile.

I swallowed hard. "How did she get out?"
Reyes sighed. "While being transported to a holding facility. She had outside help. The details are still under investigation."

George shook his head. "So basically... y'all lost her."

"GEORGE," his wife snapped.
But the officers didn't even argue, they just nodded grimly.

"We are here to advise you," Briggs said carefully, "to keep your security system active at all times, do not open the door for anyone, and report any suspicious activity immediately."

Nichelle's voice trembled.
"Do you think she'll try to come here?"
Reyes hesitated.

And that hesitation alone told us everything.
"It's possible," he said. "Given her fixation on Mr. Anderson and her obsession with Mr. Anderson here... she may attempt contact or retaliation. We have units canvassing the area, but we want you all to stay alert."

I reached for Nichelle's hand. Her fingers were ice cold.

"We're not leaving this house," I said firmly. "And nobody is getting near my family."

Briggs added, "We're setting a patrol unit outside for the next 48 hours. If she's anywhere nearby, we'll find her. But until then... please be cautious."

Amira peeked from behind the couch, little curls sticking up everywhere.

"Daddy... why is the police here? I'm scared"

"They're here to protect us baby"
Danny crouched next to her, softening.

"Yeah, princess. You got all of us. Nobody's coming to this house. We got more backup than the Avengers."

Jeffrey elbowed him. "Okay don't lie to the kid, we not the Avengers."

"Speak for yourself," George muttered. "I'm at least War Machine."

The officers handed me a contact card.
"If she reaches out, if she's seen, if anything feels off, call us immediately."

"I will."
