Back, Back, BACK AGAIN. lol Sorry I keep ditching y'all.

I have a little cliffhanger for ya, enjoy! :)

Zach POV

"You okay mama?" Nichelle's eyes were glossy, and I could tell she was in a little pain.

I got in bed with her and began rubbing her belly.
"I'm just- my belly is stretching to make room for the baby" she breathed out. "Okay"

"You got this, you need me to get you anything?" She shook her head.

"Just stay here with me" she didn't have to say nothing else. All I've ever wanted was to stay with her. Be in her embrace. Kiss on her when I want to. All I ever wanted was her.
I rubbed her belly until we both fell asleep.
"Mama"

I knew it was my baby but my body was still asleep. I know Amira though she'll continue until we wake up.

I peeked my eyes open and see her leaning over her mamas face. "Hey baby" I whispered. She looked up at me. "What's wrong?"

"I'm hungry" I nodded "alright daddy gone make something to eat" I got up from under Nichelle quietly and grabbed Amira's her hand.

She held my hand at first but then she let it go and raised her hand for a lift up. "Pick me up please"

"Such a spoiled brat" I teased and she chuckled. That's my baby and I would never trade her for nothing in this world.

"Daddy, are you gonna stay with us again? Like forever?" I look at her and I can see the fear in her eyes if I say no but yet the hope that my answer is yes"

"No matter what happens, one thing I know is that you'll never go a day without me being near you again" I say and I kissed her forehead.

I never wanted her to feel that way. It's a lot of kids out here still hoping they father still looking for milk outside somewhere when they know he ain't coming back. That don't ever have Amira's story.

I carried Amira into the kitchen, still half-asleep but wide awake enough to know what she wanted. She rested her head on my shoulder, her little curls brushing against my face.

"What you wanna eat, princess?" I asked, setting her on the counter.

"Pancakes," she said without hesitation, rubbing her eyes. "With strawberries. Mommy like those too."

I smiled. "She sure do. Guess we can make her some too, huh?"

Amira grinned. "A surprise breakfast for Mommy?"

"Exactly." I ruffled her hair. "You my little partner in crime this morning."

She giggled and grabbed the whisk from the drawer. I swear, watching her reminded me why I keep fighting for this family. I don't ever want to be away from my family again.

We started mixing the batter, flour ending up on both our shirts. "Daddy, you making a mess," she laughed.

"Nah," I said, pretending to be serious. "You the messy one, chef Amira."

She stuck out her tongue, and I had to laugh. For the first time in a long while, it felt like peace had finally found its way back into this kitchen.

I looked over at her, the way she smiled so freely, and I thought about Nichelle, how she used to hum while cooking on Saturday mornings, how her laugh used to fill the room before life got complicated.

We needed that back. She needed to feel that again.

"Hey baby girl," I said, flipping a pancake. "You think Mommy would like if we do something nice for her today?"
