The Supreme Court of India.
Courtroom No. 1 was packed with senior advocates sat shoulder to shoulder, juniors stood against the walls clutching files, and the press occupied every inch of permitted space.
This was not an ordinary criminal appeal.
The Home Minister of India had been stabbed inside central jail on his right arm by Prisoner no. 704, Rutvik.
Nahella's chachu aka Justice Agarkar took the Bench without ceremony. His expression was unreadable, he scanned the courtroom once before speaking. "This Court is hearing allegations of violent acts inside prison premises involving the accused Rutvik." he said. "One incident at the prison ground. Another inside a high-security cell. The implications are grave." His gaze settled.
"Mr. Malhotra, begin."
Arjun 'Ace' Malhotra rose, buttoned his coat, and walked a step forward. His tone was calm, practiced dangerously so.
"My Lords." he began, "The facts are disturbing but straightforward. On the afternoon in question, during scheduled prison ground activity, inmate number xxx collapsed after suffering a stab wound to the abdomen. Several prisoners identified the accused, Rutvik, standing over him with a knife." He paused deliberately. "Believing the inmate to be dead, prisoners began protesting. The prison descended into disorder. During this chaos, the accused gained unauthorized access to the Home Minister, Hardeep Devraj, who was present in the prison for inspection."
Justice Agarkar interjected, "Inside a cell?"
"Yes, My Lord." Malhotra replied. "Inside the accused's cell, Rutvik's cell." A ripple of disbelief passed through the courtroom.
"The accused then stabbed the Home Minister in his right arm, causing serious injury, it was almost attempt to murder our Home minister." Malhotra continued. "The chain of events shows intent, violence, and exploitation of security lapse." Arjun turned slightly toward Rutvik. "This is not coincidence. It is escalation."
