The low howl sends chills down my back.

Avi.

Esther and I automatically make eye contact. We seem to communicate telepathically when we both stand up and run to the door.

Esther opens the door only to be met with a frantic Mitch, who immediately pushes Esther and I back into the bus, shutting the door behind him.

He guards the door with a worried expression across his face. If something happened to Avi, Esther and I would feel horrible.

"Is Avi okay?!" I ask him.

"I want to see my brother!" Esther tries to push him away from the door.

Mitch shakes his head and stands his ground. "It's too windy out there for you! Scott and Kevin can handle it!"

"Handle what? What happened Mitch?"

"I didn't get to see him, but I think he slipped. They told me not to let you out there."

"Well we need to help him!" I join Esther, pulling at Mitch.

"No! We don't need anyone else getting hurt!" He shouts but we manage to pry him from the door, only to have it opened from the other side.

Scott and Kevin stumble in, covered in snow, carrying a very hurt bass. His face is scrunched in pain, but I am pushed aside before I get a chance to see why.

Everything seems happens so quickly as Mitch quickly grabs on of his sheets and lays it out on the couch for Avi.

I hear a small shriek from Esther as she first sees her brother. I push myself past the boys to look at him too. He has scratches and bruises starting to form all over him, but the worst part is his leg.

I gasp when I see it.

The deep gash extends from the side of his calf all the way up to the front of his knee. Below the gash, the leg is twisted in an angle a leg shouldn't be. Blood seeps through the rip in his pants and quickly spreads onto Mitch's sheet.

It breaks me to see him in pain. He is like my brother. No, he is more than my brother.

I don't know what to do so I do the first thing that comes to mind: hug him.

I hug him because he needs it. I hug him because I can't imagine the pain he is in. I hug him because I need it.

Esther is right next me holding onto him for life as the guys try to pry us away.

Esther and I sit in an embrace as we watch Scott, Mitch and Kevin frantically try to clean up his wound and evaluate it. Avi has been drifting in and out of consciousness since they brought him inside. None of us have cell service and we have yet to decide the best way to deal with the situation.

The boys all confront us after about 20 minutes of tending to Avi.

"How's Avi?" "Will he be okay?" Esther and I ask the boys.

"Well, it seems he has a concussion," Kevin starts. He sigh. "And as you can see clearly, his leg was broken when it, umm, was gashed by a large piece of ice. He slipped while pushing the bus and fell backwards into a ditch, getting cut up by an ice shard on the way. We need to clean it out quickly but we don't have the right stuff so we need to get to civilization fast."

Esther starts crying on my shoulder and I nod.

"So what can we do?" I ask.

"I found the nearest town, about forty-five minutes away, so I told Genevieve where to go. It seems small, but hopefully it has somewhere take Avi." Scott replies. "We definitely need to cancel the show tonight as Avi isn't in any shape to perform and we're behind schedule anyway with this weather."

Esther and I nod. "Of course."
