"Mitchy, wake up," I say as I shake his shoulder. "We need to get on the tour bus!"
Mitch's eyes open slightly and he groans, before finally sitting up and rubbing his eyes. It takes him a moment, but I can see Mitch's eyes widen slightly as he remembers last night.
"Did... Did you sleep with me the whole night?" He asks quietly. I shake my head and he nods in response, with no emotion on his face. I have no idea if that's a good or bad response, but I told him the truth.
After I kissed him last night, we both layed down, and he fell asleep in my arms. This of course was adorable, but I had no idea what he'd think if he woke up in my arms. Once he fell asleep, I switched over to my bed and slept the rest of the night there.
I can practically feel the elephant in the room, because I know that Mitch wants to talk about last night. He probably doesn't know what to think of it though, so I won't rush him.
Mitch glances over at the clock on the bedside table to see that it's 7:25. He immediatly jumps up.
"We need to pack up our stuff! We should be heading out to the bus already, why did you let me sleep in so late?" He asks in surprise.
"I packed all of our suitcases up and brought them out there for us already," I reply.
He smiles and nods, "Thanks."
I wait for him to get dressed in the sweats that I left for him, and then we start walking down to the lobby.
We both know that if we let the awkward silence between us continue, things will get worse, but I have no idea how to bring up last night. I clear my throat and open my mouth, but Mitch saves me and talks first.
"Why didn't you stay in my bed?" He asks quickly. He lets out a breath, since he's clearly wanted to ask me the question all morning. I still have no idea what he thinks about it.
I shrug, "I didn't want you to think I took anything to far. Or remember last night and get freaked out."
He stops walking as we get to the elevator to press the down button and look at me. The little strand of his hair falls across his face, away from the rest of it's kind which is pulled back into a bun.
"You mean take anything to far, like when I kissed you? And ruined our lives?" He asks. The strand of hair gives him a kind of innocence, and I can see that he actually still believes that what he did was horrible.
"First, let's get one thing straight," I start, in my kindest voice. "In no way did you ruin my life. Yes I was confused for a while, but I was never mad, or upset, or disappointed. Second, that is not what I meant at all. I just meant that I didn't want you to wake up and scare you if you didn't remember last night right away."
I watch him stand in silence, as he thinks about how to respond. The elevator dings and its door opens. An older man and his daughter step out of the elevator before I pull Mitch into the empty elevator behind me. I press the floor level button and the door shuts.
"Would you have stayed in the bed with me if my reaction in the morning wasn't a problem?" He asks me.
I reach forward and push the strand of hair out of Mitch's face.
"Always."
Mitch relaxes and a small smile begins to form across his mouth. Just as the elevator reaches its destination.
