Although it's super small, the clinic seems nice. The receptionist and the docter are very helpful. Dr. Smith is taking care of Avi right now in the back. The office is small with just the waiting room, the patient's room and a restroom.
We all wait outside in the lobby, except for Esther who was allowed back with Avi since they're siblings.
After only a couple minutes, the doctor comes back out of the room with a worried expression across his face.
"I haven't gotten the chance to fully evaluate your friend so far. However, he has been losing a lot of blood, which would be expected in a situation like this. There is a low risk of fatality, but it would be prefered, of course, for him to recieve more. The problem is we need a donor and I have no right to ask any of you to donate. If one of you would like to that would be great, except Avi can only recieve O- blood. I don't expect any of you have that type, do you?"
Kirstie stands up. "Um, yes I actually do..."
"Yes?" He confirms. She nods. "Well nobody can force you to donate, but he will take a significantly longer time to heal and be active if you aren't his donor-"
"I'd be happy to," Kirstie cuts him off.
Dr. Smith nods, "Okay, I'll need you to fill a few things out in the room, and then we can get started."
She nods and follows him as he opens the door once again. While they're walking into the room, the doctor tells Avi that Kirstie decided to be his donor. I hear a low, hoarse "No way!" and Kirstie start to argue back as the door shuts.
After a couple minutes of awkward silence, the receptionist breaks the ice.
"So, your friend fell in the storm?" The receptionist asks.
"Yes, the bus hit a patch of black ice, so we were pushing it back on the road when he slipped."
"Oh, you had to push you car back on the road? You must be very strong." The receptionist raises an eyebrow at me.
"I guess," I laugh, and she joins in. I feel Mitch tense up next to me so he must be silently laughing.
"I'm sorry, I haven't introduced myself! I'm Sam."
"Nice to meet you," I respond. I introduce us, nodding toward each person. "I'm Scott, and this is Kevin and Mitch."
Sam smiles. "Cool, I love your name! And your hair." She winks.
Mitch is still tense against my arm, but I have no idea why.
"Thanks! I like yours." She has long natural red hair which has loose curls along the ends. Her eyes are hazel (which reminds me of the song "behind those hazel eyes").
Mitch clears his throat and stands up next to me. "I'm going to go grab my phone from the bus," he says. As he walks out, I notice his phone in his back pocket.
"Mitch you have your-" I go to tell him, except the door shuts too fast.
He's been acting so wierd lately, that I have no idea what to do. I'm really getting annoyed with him ignoring me.
Shooting a glance at Kevin, he just shrugs so I turn back to Sam.
Mitch is gone for a while but I'm too busy joking around with Kevin and Sam to notice until Dr. Smith pokes his head out of the room to ask for us to go get Mitch.
* * * * *
After Kevin comes back with Mitch, Dr. Smith invites us into the room with Esther, Kirstie and Avi.
As we walk into the room, I see Esther and Kirstie sitting in chairs next to the hospital style bed, on which Avi lays. He has so much stuff wrapped around his leg that it's like three times the normal size.
