The scream pierces my ears as I feel the bump of the bus. My heartbeat skyrockets as I realise what is happening.
Kirstie.
I do the only thing I can think of: run to the door to save her. Except, when I get to the door, Mitch slides in and blocks the door.
"What just happened?" I yell at Mitch, attempting to pry him off of the door. "Is Kirstie okay?"
Mitch shakes his head. "I don't know. I think she slipped, but we don't need anyone else getting hurt."
With full force, I manage to yank Mitch off of the door. But with all of the power, I bounce back and Mitch tumbles on top of me.
I yelp in pain as he crushes my leg.
* * * * *
The pain in my leg pulls me from my slumber.
I blink and look around at my surroundings. The first thing I notice is the huge mass on my chest. It takes me a good minute to realize what it is.
I slowly shift to reach my phone so I don't disturb her. Of course, as I reach out for my phone, it slips and hits the ground with a loud crack.
Kirstie slowly lifts up her head and looks around. Her large sleepy eyes and soft hair make her look so small an fragile.
She turns to look at me and blinks for a minute, eyebrows furrowed. Then, realizing where she is, Kirstie quietly gasps, and her hand flies to cover her mouth.
"Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry!" She whispers.
I awkwardly smile. "Don't be."
Her cheeks turn pink and she looks down. I realize that was a really awkward thing to say to her.
"I'm sorry. I just- I-"
This time, she looks up and says, "Don't be," giggling. "Your voice is so low!"
I smile and nod.
We sit there in awkward silence for what seems like forever. I stare into her chocolate eyes and think about how beautiful she is. I think about the dream I've been having of her every night since my leg incident. I think of how she doesn't deserve a boyfriend who cheats on her.
I think of how she needs a boyfriend like me.
I've been pushing this feeling to the back of my mind but I can't hold it back anymore.
"Kirstin," I whisper. "I, um... I like you."
She nods and her cheeks turn even more pink. She rests her head back on my chest.
"Avi, I like you too." She says slowly.
"What about Jeremy, and the band?" I ask, coming to the realization of how weird this might be to everyone else.
What would I say to Kevin? Would he judge me?
Kirstie shakes her head and sighs. "Jeremy already broke my heart, and I don't want to have to worry about trust. And I'm sure the band is fine; They already ship Scömíche."
"So, do you think we could be a thing?"
"Yes," She replies.
I sigh and think about how much my life just changed since I woke up. About how much it has changed in the past week.
"So, how do we tell them?" I ask.
"Wake up, lovebirds!" I hear Scott yell from the hall.
Oh my gosh, did they see us sleeping?
"I think they already know," Kirstie giggles.
