My breath caches, just as the car I'm in takes off like a rocket. I quickly turn my head back to the front. I feel the rush of the moving car, the feeling of the smooth pavement below my tires, the gentle rocking of the car.
But all my mind is on is him.
He lied to me. He actually said he would come, and he didn't. Didn't he know how important this was to me? Didn't he get it?
I shake my head, tears blurring the edge of my vision. This can't be happening, not here, not now.
I press my foot into the gas, my sadness turning into anger. I swerved my way around the other cars, easily able to maneuver around the others.
Until I get to Ashton's car, number eleven. I speed up, trying my best to pass him, but my foot can't go down any further. My teeth are gritted, my jaw tight. Ashton sees me out of the corner of his vision, and he takes that as his chance.
Without a word, her swerves to the right, smashing straight into me. I am famed into the guard rail, sparks and smoke flying off of my car. I'm being grinder into the wall, trapped.
I look over at Ashton, at his car, trying to find a way out. My foot pushes over to the brake, and the tires squeal. White smoke billows from my back tires, as my car flies backwards.
Ashton's car runs into the wall, monetarily slowing him down. He tries his best to right himself, only making him swerve and fly about.
My foot slips over to the gas, and my car is shot forward, screeching the whole way. My fingers grip onto the wheel. Ashton disappears in the rearview mirror as I smile.
Soon, I am flying through the rest of the other cars, dodging as they swerve about and as they get hit and bumped by each other.I swerve away from a car that has been shoved by another, just as she crashes into the wall and slows to a halt. I glance behind me, seeing all the other cars ganging up on me.
My hand goes instantly to the gears. I shift the car into another gear, making the car jolt a little, before it starts to speed up. Those cars begin to shrink in my mirrors.
And before I know it, I'm across the finish line, just behind someone else. I slow to a halt in my pit stop, smiling from ear to ear.
The crowd cheers, all standing up and applauding. I hadn't won first place, but I had made it pretty darn close.
As I look around at the cheering fans, my smile fades. My hand falls, stopping waving at the crowd happily.
Not one of them compares to the way Aaron would've reacted if he had seen it.
