"Junk," I mumble, looking through the mail I had gotten out of the mailbox. I use my hip to close the door behind me, my eyes on the stacks of letters in my hand.

"Junk, junk, junk," I toss every junk letter on the island in the kitchen. I stand in the sunlight of the open window, reading the fronts of the letters quickly.

But, my whole body freezes when I get to one letter in the middle of the stack. i drop the rest of them, pulling this one piece of mail away from the pile. I squint my eyes at it, not believing what I was reading.

I turn around, leaning back onto the island as I begin to rip open the giant letter. My heartbeat races, and I can't hide the smile on my face.

This can't be happening, my mind says to me.

I tug at the letter inside, pulling it out of the envelop quickly without ripping it. My fingers trembled as I unfolded the paper.

My eyes skimmed the beginning, and my smile gets bigger the more I read.

"Oh my gosh," I mumble as I continue reading the letter. I steady myself by putting a hand on the counter top behind me, pushing myself up as I start to pace.

When i get to the bottom of the letter, I can't help but scream with excitement. I hear a loud thud upstairs, as well as a few hushed voices asking questions to one another. I keep my eyes on the paper, the sound of thudding come fast down the stairs.

"What is it?" my dad shouts, sliding into the kitchen with a baseball bat in hand. My mom appears behind him, shoving him out of the way and stomping right up to me.

"What the heck-" she starts to say, looking around the kitchen, and then up at me. I look up at her, my smile plastered to my face.

"I made it," i say quietly, as my brother makes his way to join the rest of the family.

My mom's eyebrows furrow in confusion, and my dad walks up closer to us.

"What do you mean?" my mom asks.

I glance down at the letter in my hand, and then back up at my family.

"They want me to be a professional racer," I say.
