I'm pretty sure I reread that letter a hundred times, taking in every bit of information. I just couldn't wrap my eyes around the fact that I was going to be a pro racer. It had been a dream of mine since I was younger, but I always thought it would never happen.
And here I was, reading the words that said I was supposed to be a real racer.
My fingers trembled when I laid the paper down beside me on the bed, reaching for my phone. I scroll through my contacts until I found the one I wanted.
I put the phone up to my ear, hearing the the sharp ringing as I waited for her to pick up.
I bit my lip and picked up the letter, skimming over it quickly one last time.
Caitlyn picks up the phone, and the ringing stops. I drop my letter on the blanket.
"Luna?" she just has time to ask before I cut her off.
"Caitlyn, I'm going to be a pro racer," I say excitedly. There is silence on the other end for a split second, before an earsplitting scream erupted on the other end.
I jumped, pulling the phone away from my ear and nearly throwing it onto the bed beside me. I squeezed my eyes shut until the screaming had stopped, before pressing the phone back to my ear.
"Are you okay over there?" I ask cautiously.
"HECK YES, I AM!" Caitlyn shouts excitedly. I pull the phone away again, until she has calmed down yet again.
"I can't believe this," Caitlyn says, her voice lowering thankfully. A smile comes over my face, and stays there.
"Yeah, the race track they want for me is not that far away, about an hour North of Los Angeles," I inform her, brushing my straight, blonde hair out of my face and behind my ear.
"That's a good thing," she responds after thinking for a second, "at least you can stay close to home."
I nod, not sure what else to say.
"Have you told Aaron yet?" she suddenly asks.
My smile melts away, and I nearly let my phone fall out of my hand. I try to speak, but can't think of anything to say.
Why had I not thought of him through this?
