Chapter 93 What Ifs

3rd Person POV

Fei and Hisame stood outside a hospital room where an older Kinako rubbed her round belly, someone sitting at her bedside.

The two turned to them, Kinako smiling.

Fei: "You can tell who I am?"

Hisame stared at the woman at Kinako's bedside.

Kokoro: "... Let's give them a bit of privacy."

Kokoro got up and walked over to Hisame, the two stepping away from mother and son. 

Hisame: "... You know?"

Kokoro: "Yes. Kinako told me everything."

Hisame: "I'm surprised she remembered..."

Kokoro: "Well, her child is a Second Stage Child, so it's likely she carries the Second Stage Gene. I don't think the memory wipe would have worked completely."

Hisame chuckled softly.

Kokoro: "Kinako told me... you know everything about me, hm?"

Hisame's expression turned solemn.

Hisame: "Yes..."

Kokoro hummed.

Kokoro: "My divorce... tell me. Is my ex... happy?"

Hisame looked sad but nodded.

Kokoro: "Then that's all that matters."

Hisame glanced at Kokoro. Her eyes couldn't hide the sadness, but a weight seemed off her shoulders.

Hisame: 'To pass of heartbreak... Kokoro-san...'

Kokoro: "... I know my ending. So does Kinako. And we're hoping to change both of ours."

Hisame: "Change it?"

Kokoro: "To create a new time route."

Hisame: !

Kokoro: "I'm glad to have met you, even in this small moment. Perhaps in the new time route, I can meet you again. But this time, with your parents."

Hisame: "Kokoro-san..."

Kokoro patted Hisame's head.

Kokoro: "I don't regret the choices I made. Even if it meant letting go of the one I love. So, don't make a sad face. We'll meet again. I'm sure."

Hisame's eyes watered.

Hisame: "Yes...! You... won't be forgotten. I promise that."

Kokoro softened.

Kokoro: "Thank you. I'm sure meeting you back then... healed something inside me."

Hisame wiped her eyes.

Kokoro: "See you, Hisame-chan."

Hisame: "See you... Kokoro-san."

Back at Ragnarok Stadium...

Ciel: "Are you sure you don't need a few minutes?"

Hisame: "Yes. Don't worry. All the tears stopped. And besides, they were happy tears."

Ciel watched as Hisame folded some blankets.

Hisame: "I should be asking you if you need time. This is going to take a while. And... you haven't told Saru."

Ciel: "If I tell him, he'll just worry. This is something I have to do on my own."

Hisame sighed.

Hisame: "Stubborn till the end. I'm ready."
