The school auditorium buzzed with chatter and camera clicks. Folding chairs packed with parents faced the glittery stage. Rainbow Dash sat in the front row, clutching her phone like her life depended on it. Soarin sat beside her, trying to calm her down.
Rainbow Dash: whispers loudly "I swear if anyone coughs during my daughter's performance-"
Soarin: "Dash, honey... breathe."
On the stage, kids performed skits, sang songs, and played instruments. But Rainbow barely heard any of it-she only had eyes on the little girl waiting backstage.
Aurora, wearing a shimmering silver outfit, peeked from behind the curtain. Her teal hair streaks glowed under the light.
She looked nervous.

Backstage
Aurora stood frozen, clutching her microphone. Her hands were shaking.
Aurora: to herself "Don't mess up... don't mess up..."
Suddenly, Raindrop-still in her little ballet hoodie-slid next to her, whispering like a spy.
Raindrop: "You're gonna be awesome, Rory."
Aurora swallowed.
Aurora: "What if I forget the words?"
Raindrop shrugged.
Raindrop: "Then make up new ones. You're good at being weird."
Aurora couldn't help laughing.

On Stage
The announcer's voice boomed:
Speaker: "Next up... Aurora Dash! Singing an original song!"
The crowd cheered. Rainbow literally gasped.
Rainbow Dash: "THAT'S MY BABY!"
Soarin gently tugged her arm.
Soarin: "Dash, please, the other parents are staring."
Aurora stepped into the lights. Her eyes widened-the crowd stretched far and deep, like an ocean.
She whispered into the mic.
Aurora: "Hi... um... this is a song I wrote... it's called 'Light Me Up.'"
She plucked her guitar, voice soft at first.

Aurora sings
"When the world feels cold
And the nights feel long
I close my eyes
And I hear my song..."
Her voice trembled... then steadied.
Rainbow covered her mouth.
Soarin stared in awe.
Raindrop swayed side-to-side in her seat, following the rhythm.
Aurora opened her eyes-and saw her mom smiling.
Something inside her clicked.
Her voice rose stronger.
"You light me up-
Show me who I am-
Make me believe
I am brave again..."
The auditorium was silent. Many parents teared up.
Aurora finished her last note-
And silence...
Then-
The room exploded in applause.

After the Song
Aurora blinked rapidly, shocked.
Aurora: "Wait... they like it?"
Rainbow Dash: standing, screaming "LIKE IT?! THEY LOVE YOU!"
Soarin clapped proudly.
Soarin: "Aurora, that was incredible."
Aurora rushed off the stage straight toward her mom, heart pounding.
Rainbow knelt, arms open.
Aurora: crying softly "Mom... I wasn't scared at the end."
Rainbow hugged her tight.
Rainbow Dash: "That's 'cause you found your wings, sweetheart."
Raindrop squeezed into the hug.
Raindrop: "I told you you're awesome."
Aurora smiled through tears.

Backstage Celebration
A teacher approached, eyes wide.
Teacher: "Aurora, the judges want to speak to you later. You might have won something."
Aurora's jaw dropped.
Aurora: "Wait... what?! Really?!"
Rainbow ruffled her hair.
Rainbow Dash: "Win or not... you just did something most adults can't do. That's everything."
Aurora wiped her eyes.
Aurora: "Mom?"
Rainbow Dash: "Yeah?"
Aurora: "Will you sing with me next year... as a duet?"
Rainbow froze, shocked... then burst into a giant smile.
Rainbow Dash: "Sweetheart-there's nothing I'd love more."
Aurora hugged her again, face glowing.
She had followed her dream and lit up the whole room.
And she knew it.
