18.
Some things come in small packages. My mothers' favourite words. She'd used to explain to me, when I was little, that good things come in small sizes. Like myself for an instance, I was small but had a handy way with knives. I don't know if she said that to make me feel special, but it didn't.
"Clove can you hear me?" something rubs against me, making me twitch with annoyance.
"I think she's dead," a plain voice announces and I feel my body roll to one side.
"No she's not!" the other voice protests. I know its Cato, it always is.
"Look, Cato, just...." I don't know who it is, but I let my eyes flutter open and sit up straightaway.
"You were saying?" I call aloud to the unknown speaker. Cato is the first face I see, and he practically melts his face into mine. I kiss him back though, my head finally getting into it. We break apart, only because the negative speaker coughs.
"If you're quite done," they say a drawl in their tone. I try to ignore the bitterness in it.
"Oh they're only in love once!" a bittersweet voice says and I hear a SLAP!.
"You've made allies then?" I say to Cato as he caresses my cheek fondly. He gives a weak smile.
"It's Cashmere, Finnick and Mags." He replies to my question. What about Gloss?
"Where's Gloss?" I ask curiosity getting the better of me. I swear I hear Cashmere's breath cut short.
"He's gone." Cato says averting his eyes from me.
"I'm sorry," I mutter and watch as Cato wipes away a small fragile tear from his stormy eyes.
"Was that Cashmere just there?" I whisper in a hush tone to Cato.
"And where's Prim?"
Did she die too?
Why do you care?
The thought circles around my brain.
Well? You shouldn't, you have to get out, Clove.
"After you blacked out, I stood to protect you, and Prim took two of your knives and stabbed Gloss. He came forward and tried to kill her, but she did it just in time. She gave your knives back, I would have kept them. From you that is, but she didn't. Pleasant like that I suppose. After that she left, with Haymitch and this other girl. She's in her twenties, and was helping Prim in every way possible." He says quickly tripping over his words.
So Prim killed Gloss, and now Cashmere hates me. I get it.
Prim killed someone? Wow, I've underestimated her a lot.
NO kidding,
"Oh," Is all I manage to mutter out. So much effort in to that two letter word. I flex my muscles and begin to stand.
"Hey Clove." Finnick says gingerly raising a hand to greet me. Mags shows me her toothless mouth and Cashmere just sniffs the air. She just lost her brother. I know what thats like too.
"Hi." I say my voice barely audible.
"How many are dead?" I ask. I really want to know. Mags grunts, Finnick already translating for her
"Around seven, but we better move or else it'll be eleven." he says and sighs impatiently. Cashmere snatches a small bag and a spear. While Mags holds onto a weird metal piece and Finnick his trident.
"Lets go,"
My knives are already strapped around me so I don't worry about them. My head still burns from the though that Prim killed someone.
