I sit in silence as everyone munches away with the delicious breakfast. I can't help but stare at Jack and Oona, how is she still here? Usually the girl by now would be lacing up her shoes and leaving his house.
I decide I would take part in their conversation,"Uh-Um , Oona what do you do for a living?"
She purses her lips as she opens her mouth to speak, but Jack takes her words out of her lips,"She's a writer!" He claims
"Oh, I see. And how old are you?" I shove a piece of pancake in my mouth
"She 26, like you Janie" he mutters
"Jack! Would you let the lady speak for herself!" I shout
She chuckles and places a hand on his thigh. I can stiffen as she does and Tiffany gives me a worried look. She's the only one who knows my love for Jack and she knows I wouldn't want to mess up our friendship.
"I'm 26, and I work for Times magazine."
My and Tiffany gasp, how the hell can she work at Times magazine?
I try to keep my calm,"Oh that's cool,"
Jack can see my awkwardness so he decides to butt in,"Janie's a second grade teacher! She loves kids, and-"
"Awe! That is so cute!" Oona squeals, "So Janie, Jack tells me you and him are best friends?"
I bite a piece of my bacon,"Yup, since the fourth grade!"
"He told me a lot about you," I instantly shoot Jack a deadly stare. His hands flies up in surrender.
"Oh I see, I thought you two did the nasty last night" I spit out
They both shift uncomfortably, now I know they definitely did.
"Janie!" Jack shouts
"What? I just don't want to see you get hurt again Jack" I reply
Oona presses her lips in a thin line,"Oh you don't have to worry about that. Jack asked me to dinner last night"
I feel my heart beating a mile a minute, how can he already like this girl?
"Well I'm stuffed" Tiffany finally announces
"I have to go get ready for work, excuse me" I get up from my seat and walk to my room.
"Janie?" Jack knocks on my door
"Come in" I reply. I grab my toiletries and take my hair out of my bun.
"What's wrong with you Janie? I really like her. We spent all last night just talking and she didn't rush to things."
I sigh,"Jack you just got dumped last night, how can you say you like someone already? Jack. We've been friends since the fourth grade I know you"
He sits on my bed,"I-I know, it's just I hate being single and I'm almost 30 with just three more years to go. Don't you think it's time to settle down with someone Janie? You're 26 you have everything you ever worked for why not settle for something-someone"
It's true, we aren't getting any younger. We both have our dream jobs, car, apartment. What am I waiting for? Him-Jack , my subconscious adds.
The thing is I'm scare of commitment, I've always have been. Having Jack by my side has always been the answer, losing him would mean I would lose everything I've ever held on to.
"I'm sorry Jack, seeing you happy is all I ask for." I give him a fake smile
"Thanks Janie, I will never leave you if that's what you're thinking. We've been friends since-"
