16: Sounds like a dog name

It's been two days since I last talked to Hunter. I made up every excuse possible when I came into contact with him. Like when I saw him at Target, I ran away like a little kitty. Or that time I saw him after school picking up Sapphire, I pretended to talk to parents. Or that other time I bumped into him at the park, I pretended someone was calling me and I gave him a finger to hold on and ran away.

I'm just not ready to tell him that I don't want anything...more. Friendship is all I need and being in a relationship will make things awkward. His sister is my student, and his parents hate me. Well not his mother but his father, definitely hates me.

I don't see myself more than just friends with him. He's sweet, caring, funny, and hot but I can't do it. I can't let my guard down and pursue a relationship on false attraction.

I feel really bad though, have I been leading him on? I hate to think that I am, it not him, it's me, that's the problem.

Maybe I should give him a chance, see what a relationship really is. It won't bother to hurt right? No, no, no , I can't! But what if it feels right? No I can't I would be hurting him in the end.

Maybe I should just talk to him, work things out and see where it goes from there. Yes! That's what I'll do, just talk!

"Janie! It's time for you to get up! You're going to be late!" Tiffany yelled through my bedroom door

I got out of bed and went into the hot steamy shower. I was so lost in my thoughts that I didn't even realize that I shampooed my hair two times!

What a waste of good shampoo! After my hot shower I went to go get dressed. It's a Friday! Just this day until the weekend!

Once I finally found what to wear- a pair of black skinny jeans and a blue blouse, I made my way to the kitchen which smelt like bacon.

"Yum smells good!" I close my eyes wanting a surprise plate in front of me. I look down and see nothing.

"What the-"

"Sorry Janie, I made it for me and... Rufus" Tiffany shrugged as she brought a perfectly filled plate to her room.

"Who is Rufus?" I yell, angry that she did not make me breakfast this morning.

"The guy I'm seeing" she whispers as she opens the door.

So she's going to make a guy name Rufus breakfast and not me? What kind of name is Rufus? Sounds like a dog name to me. How rude.

"I'll just make my own breakfast" I say to myself.

"I brought food!" A happy Jack walks into the apartment.

"Thank goodness! Tiff was going to make me cook my own breakfast." I hungrily eye the pancakes in Jacks hands

"Why do I smell bacon?" He ask, plotting down the plate of delicious food

"She cooked breakfast for her boyfriend, Rufus" I sit at the table and grab a plate to pile pancakes and sausages.

He laughs, "Tiffany has a boyfriend named Rufus?"

I shove a piece of pancakes in my mouth and mumble the words,"it's not her boyfriend, it's the guys she's seeing"

"Don't talk with your mouth full, I can't understand you Janie" he sips the coffee in his hand.

I swallow what's left in my mouth and begin to repeat my words,"it's not her boyfriend, it's the guys she's seeing"

"And his name is Rufus?" Jack lifts an eyebrow

"Yup" I said popping the 'P'

"That sounds like a dogs name" he chuckles

I laugh along shoving more food down my mouth,"That's what I said!"

"Oh sorry I came a little late! I got held up downstairs" a voices startles me

"Oh Janie, Oona's here" he looks at me.

"Oh would you look at that, my time has come and it's time for me to go to work" I pretend to look at the fake watch on my arm

"Janie," Jack whines

I walk up to him and whisper,"I'm happy you two worked it out! I have to get to work, I'll talk to you later" and walked away to my room.

I grab my things for work and made my way toward the door when I was stopped by Oona.

"Oona!" I say in a fake happy voice

"Why are you headed off to so early?" She tilts her small head

"I have work" I lift the papers in my arms

"Oh that's right! Sorry, have fun at work!" She moves out of my way

"Thanks" I murmured and walked out of my apartment.

Was she trying to scare me or something? If so, why?

Throughout the day I busy myself with the kids and correcting papers. I didn't realize school was almost over. After teaching the kids and reading to them school ended.

Finally the day was over and I can relax. The weekend is coming and I'm ready to sleep forever.

Knock knock

I look up to see a shy Hunter.

I sit up and fix my blouse,"Hunter..."

"Hey Janie, I came by to drop these off" he moves his arm he was hiding behind his back and places a bouquet of lilies on the desk.

"Oh Hunter you didn't have to-"

"No it's fine, I just wanted to see your face one last time before I leave to Aspen."

"You're leaving to Aspen? As in moving?" I ask confused

"Yeah, I have a lot of business there so I might as well move up there" he looks down at his feet

He was moving? Why so soon? Was it because of me?

"I'll miss having you around" I honestly say.

He smiles showing me his dimples,"Me too Janie"

We stood there with silence in between us.

I broke the silence,"Wanna have dinner tonight? My place....As a goodbye dinner?"

"Y-yeah, I'll like that" he smiles shyly. He is so hot, really hot, now that I see it.

"Come by at seven and I'll have dinner ready"

"Okay, I'll see you then" he begins walking towards the door

"Hunter!" I shout at him

"Yeah Janie?"

I don't know what came over me but I said,"I love your dimples, you should show them more often"

He smiles showing them,"I will," he then silences and just stares straight at me.

"Hunter."

"Janie."

And just like that, he left. My heart was pounding a mile a minute.
