Next Chapter: Five Months Later
Advitya POV
Five months.
That was how long the house had been silent.
Not empty, silent. The kind of silence that presses against your ears until your thoughts become too loud. Imtiaz was gone. His shadow erased. His name spoken only in reports and courtrooms.
But Aaryan... Aaryan was still everywhere.
Advitya stood outside the gate, as he did every morning and every night, keys heavy in his hand. The small, white house looked peaceful from the outside. Too peaceful for the kind of grief it held inside.
He didn't knock.
He never did anymore.
Jade opened the door quietly, giving him a look filled with sympathy she never tried to hide. Jaideep hovered somewhere behind her—protective, respectful, always watching him like a man afraid he might break.
"She's awake," Jade said softly. "Didn't sleep much."
Advitya nodded. "Thank you."
He stepped in. Adhya sat by the window, one hand resting on her seven-months-pregnant belly, the other wrapped tightly around a cup of tea gone cold. She had grown thinner, quieter. Her eyes carried something distant—like she was always listening for a voice that would never answer again.
She didn't look at him.
She never did first.
"How are you feeling today?" he asked gently.
"Fine," she replied, flat.
He nodded, as if that one word didn't carve into him every single time.

The fight replayed in his mind whether he wanted it to or not.
It had started with words.
It always did.
"You let him die."
Her voice had been hollow that day. Not screaming. Not crying. Just... empty.
Advitya had stayed calm. He had to.
"That's not true," he had said, slowly, carefully. "You know that's not true."
She laughed—bitter, broken.
"You went there for me. Not him."
"That doesn't mean—"
"You chose me," she interrupted. "And he paid the price."
He had swallowed the pain. Took it. Again and again.
Days later, he came home to chaos.
Adhya wasn't there.
He found her at the old storage unit near the hills—the same area they'd sealed off months ago. She was digging through dust and rubble like a woman possessed.
"Aaryan's toy," she had said when he grabbed her arm. "His blue car. I left it here. I need to find it."
Her hands were shaking. Her breathing erratic.
"Adhya, stop," he had pleaded. "This isn't safe."
She stepped back.
And fell.
Time stopped.
He caught her—barely—but she hit the ground hard enough that his heart nearly tore itself apart.
