Walking back to the conference room, I don't see any sight of Beatrice at all. That's not a good thing, then. It means that she might've discovered us, or that she's still in the conference room and she'll be furious with me. Once I'm alone in the hallway, I run all the way back to the conference room. The light is still on, I can see through the bottom of the door. I push it open, sliding into the room.
"Beatrice?" I gasp, out of breath. She's not here. There's nobody here, no papers, no chairs out of place, no evidence that we were ever in this room.
"Oh no. No, no, no...." She went after us, I know it. I have to go back. I look around the door. People have started filing into the hallways, on their way to their rooms. I regain my breath, and walk out. I don't run until I'm in the main hallway, which is less crowded at this hour. Nobody is in the hallway. I run to gate B14. I'm just near the doors, when I trip over a guard's body. I groan, and clutch my head with my hand. It comes away bloody, and my vision is blurry and doubled. I hit my head on a gun, I think. I try to pick it up, but it slips out of my grasp, slick with my blood. My head falls to the floor. Just before everything goes black, I look up. The doors have just closed, but I catch a glimpse of blonde hair disappear behind it. It's too late. I'm too late.
