For the next few days, Valery never showed up to school. I got super worried one day, and I could never focus on all my work. I ended up going to her house. When I got there, there was a note on the door saying,
Valery has gone missing. If you have any news about our little girl, please contact the following number: 636-835-1093. The picture at the bottom is the picture of our daughter in her present state.
And a picture of Val was there. I looked at it with tears in my eyes. My vision was becoming blurry.
"Why?" I whispered to myself, "Why did you go missing? Where are you Valery?"
I started running home, with tears streaming down my face like a river.
Throughout the rest of the days, I've been collecting clues of why and where Val has gone. I thought through as many of my memories as possible to see why she would go missing. I couldn't think of anything for why she would run away.... unless.... she was.
"Reese?" I heard someone say.
I turn my head and saw Daniel.
"Yeah?" I asked.
"The news said something about this girl named Valery in the hospital."
My eyes widened at that news. I ran passed him and looked on the television. Val was in the hospital. Her brown hair was all stringy, her eyes closed, and she was softly breathing.
"Apparently, this child, Valery Eco, said she was kidnapped by these strange men. They told her she was this strange thing, but she doesn't remember what they said. She said that her friend, Reese Albino, is the one person that can help her get over all that stress she went through. Valery is being held at St. Joseph's Hospital for checking of memory loss and major wounds."
Valery... in the hospital. Strange men taking her and telling her strange things... So she was kidnapped. I have to go to that hospital now.
"Screw what that girl says," Dad said, "She's only doing it to get attention. The news can be false anytime."
I shot him a glare, and I started packing my bag to get to that hospital. Thank god that it was fall break tomorrow. As I was packing, I was thinking about how I could get to the hospital. I can't drive, I don't own a bike, guess I'm gonna have to take a bus there. I sneakily go into my dad's closet and steal some money from his wallet.
I didn't get any allowance, so this was the only way to get to Val. I would have to escape at night.
12:00 am
I knew that everyone would be asleep, so I took my stuff and quietly stepped into the living room. Mike was snoring on the couch, so I had to be sure not to wake HIM up. No matter how slowly I stepped, the floor creaked, but he stayed as sleepy as a sloth.
When I stepped out of the door, I felt a weight lift off my shoulders. I ran all the way to the bus stop, and when I got there, I put $20 in the little slot. Seeing how St. Josephs Hospital was one hour away, it costs $20 per hour. (I know, expensive right.)
I pulled out my phone, which was at 100%, and started listening to some music. I felt in a Taylor Swift mood, so I put on the song Bad Blood. I swear, I've been obsessed with this song, since it came out. If the music video was n actual movie, I would watch it.
Anyways, when I arrived tot he hospital, I thanked the bus driver and hopped off the bus. I looked at the rectangular building. The walk to the entrance seemed to last forever, and the tension built up in my chest, as I opened the cold iron doors.
A wave of cold air embraced me, as I entered the hospital. I walked towards the person at the counter, and asked for Valery's number.
"225, fourth floor," She said, in a tired voice.
I nodded "thanks" and walked towards the elevator. When I reached the fourth floor, I saw some people seated in light blue chairs. Some of which were asleep and others that were texting on their phones. I walked towards the man at the counter and told him my name. He looked up from his work and smiled.
"Say," he said, "Aren't you that girl that my son Ethan talks about?"
Ethan talks about me at home?
"Yeah. Are you his father?" I asked.
"Heh, sure am. What are you doing out here all by yourself?"
I told him about what happened on the news and why I'm here. When I was done, his face was in utter shock.
"Well," he finally spoke, "Do your parents know that you're out here?"
"Y-yes, I told my mom I was going to see Val, and she let me."
"Those are some daring parents you got there. I wouldn't let Ethan go out of the neighborhood by himself!"
I giggle and asked to see Valery. He told me the door was just down the hall. I thanked him and walked down the hallway. It was quite eerie, actually. One of the lights flickered, it was super empty, except for one of the nurses, and the quietness just made it seem like a horror movie.
When I reached Val's room, I looked through the windows. She was awake and fidgeting with her fingers. I opened the door, slowly, and when she looked up, she started tearing up.
"Reese!" she called, "Oh my god, it's been forever since I've seen you!"
I slid my backpack off my shoulder and ran to hug her. She hugged me back so tightly, I thought I would faint, but I hugged her tightly too. When we pulled back, she was crying.
"What happened?" I asked, wiping her tears away.
She explained everything to me.
"These men with brown, gold, and silver hair took me and told me that I had this power from the Spirit world. They said something about me being one of the Mystics of the Light. I thought it was weird because one of them had the exact same shade of purple eyes as yours."
My eyes widened at that.
"Which man had the purple eyes?" I asked, randomly.
"The one with the silver hair. He said something about someone in his family was also a part of the Mystics of the Light, but they haven't found her. I left because I heard something about them saying that they were gonna murder me because my power was 'Too powerful'."
I shook my head in dismay. What does this mean that Val's a Mystic and her powers and.... UGH! After a while of talking about general things, Val brings up something.
"So, how's it going with your boyfriend?"
"What do you mean, boyfriend?" I asked.
She gave me that "Really" look but made me more confused.
"Ethan, you dufus."
I felt my cheeks heat up.
"He is NOT, and I repeat, he is NOT my boyfriend. We hate each other anyway."
She started laughing, and that was when I realized what time it was. I looked at the clock in the room, and it read, 3:00am. I quickly got my stuff and said bye to Val.
"When will you be back?" I asked her.
"Maybe by next week," she replied, still chuckling, "I can't wait to see you cuddling with Ethan, when I get back."
I smacked her lightly on her shoulder and left her room.
I hope she can come to school soon.
