A Living Dream

I got out of the hospital a few weeks after I had that dream. I'm still shaken by how real that dream seemed. The plants, the animals, the lights, everything! The weird thing was, that I had more and more dreams about that place, as soon as I got out of the hospital. Every time I woke up, I always had those lines on my arms.

At school, people asked if I was okay after the incident. I just gave them small smiles and nodded. They probably forgot what happened, seeing how the only people who saw what happened were the kids who didn't talk to much. I still had a couple of bruises on my face, but I used foundation to make them hard to see.

I was in my seat in science, when I heard a familiar voice.

"Reese!" It was Ethan.

I turned around, and I was engulfed in a hug. Ethan realized what he was doing and pulled back swiftly. His cheeks turned pink, and he started talking again.

"Ahem, I'm really glad you're back. I saw what happened to you on the news."

"Meh," I said, "I'd rather be back in that hospital bed rather than my own house."

He smirked.

"Why, so you're big bro can be more nice to you."

"Hey!"

"I'm just kidding!" he said, putting his hands up.

The teacher came in and gave us a small glare. Ethan and I quickly knew what that meant, and he went to his seat. Throughout the whole hour, I caught Ethan sneaking glances at me. Near the end of the hour, though, Val nudged me and pointed to Ethan, who was glancing at me. This time, when he looked away, he started blushing. Man, he blushes a lot!

At the end of the day, Ethan, Val and I were walking home together. I decided to start drawing, since I haven't done it in a long time, so I took out my sketchpad. As I was getting to a clean page, I realized my mother's picture had a background of the forest from my dream, except less gloomy and blue.

I looked at it more carefully and the background, and my mom started moving!

What the heck?

"What's up, Reese?" Valery asked.

"Huh?" I realized I said that out loud, and I looked at her.

"You said, 'what the heck?'" Ethan recalled.

I looked at the picture again, and they both were in awe. I'm guessing they saw the background moving too. My mom was smiling and petting the animals she came by. Some of the trees even came alive! They were talking to each other and congratulating my mom on her marriage. Wait, was this place real?!

"Lilith," One of the baby trees said, "I can't believe you're leaving."

My mother smiles at the young sapling. She kneeled in her snowy white dress and rubbed one of the sapling's leaves.

"I might not be able to meet the Spirit World anymore," she replied, "But my daughter definitely will."

"You're gonna have a daughter?" it asked.

"Yes. In fact, you can thank your grandmother for that information. She is a fortune teller after all!"

The sapling smiles, and my mother goes back to her original place, in her original pose, and the picture goes still. I'm stunned. What just happened? That was the Spirit World? And what did she mean by me being able to visit the Spirit world?

"What the hell was that?" Ethan asked, just as stunned as I was.

"I-I'm not sure," I answered, "The only time I've seen this place my mother was in were in dreams, but I doubt the dreams were real."

Val looked at the picture and looked to me.

"You said you saw this in a dream?"

I nodded and explained my dream to her and Ethan. Val looked shocked.

"That couldn't have been a dream, then" She said.

"What do you mean?" I asked.

"You said you were able to feel the animals and remember it right?"

I nodded.

"And your mother said you could visit this Spirit World right?"

I nodded again. Just then, It all hit me.  Everything that had happened. My arms, the power, the dreams. Could I be a....
