The Awakening Part 2

My grandfather has always been the person that I relied on in my life. After my mother died, it seemed like he was only person who could move on in my family. My father seemed too stuck there at that night. It was last time we as a family hugged each other. It was also the last time that everything I knew was the same. That day I had woken up early to go to the park and play baseball with Jun and Nivea. The park was not that far from our house but I wanted to get their early and practice with Jun before Nivea came. She was a natural athlete so I wanted to show her that I could hang with her for once. My sister and I always ate breakfast with my grandfather in the morning. He used to get up early and make breakfast for us. It was always the same a hot cocoa no matter the temperature and a cheese omelet. My sister and I would put chives on it and sour cream on the omelet to change it up a bit sometimes. My father that day was about to go mow the lawn that day. It was supposed to be a day like any other day.
"Samantha why do you have to hog the salt so much I want some", said Novella.
"I didn't hog the salt I just like it near me", said Samantha.
My sister looked like Shirley temple as she talked her long curls bounced as she talked. Many people in the neighborhood said that it scared them abut her. She always looked like something had just happened. She hardly ever smiled and she frowned a lot even on happy occasions.
"You two better stop fighting. I need you both to help me for the trip next week to the mountains remember I'm going to teach you to hunt this trip, said their grandfather.
My grandfather was a man of few words. He spoke only when he needed he was a man of few words. I remember the day that my grandmother died. He said no words just stood there on the side the whole. My grandfather will short gray hair and clothes from the 80's just there quiet as my grandmother body was lowered down in the church graveyard. He never cried or wailed he just stood there silent, as I said he said few words his actions spoke louder then anything he would ever said. That day he walked over to the grave of my grandmother and stood there. All night I remember my father saying to him. All night he stood there waiting for her. I never understood why he said that about her. How could you wait for someone when their already dead. I remember not understanding what that meant to wait for the dead. At the table that day, I remember the sun blaring brightly into the room from the windows. The sun baked my face as I sat at the table. Then I saw my father dresses as he had always been dressed with his long sweats and his short t-shirt on. I smiled at him as he walked out side to the garden outside where the shed was. Then I saw him walk out the side door of the lawn to the front. Our house was a side house so the lawn was very long and big. We had enough room to have a garden and a big shed. However, all he used was a push mower to cut to the large lawn.
Then I saw a figure in the backyard. I looked hard to see the figure through the sun but all I saw was shadow and then it was gone.
"Honey what is it", said her grandfather.
"Grandfather I think someone in the yard can you go out and look", said Samantha.
"Oh it nothing grandfather there nothing there I didn't see a thing", said Novella.
"No Novella let not just think the worst. Let see you never know these days. It probably just a neighborhood kid who looking for a ball they lost. You know that they fall in our yard a lot. He probably thought he could come in with out us knowing real quick. I may have to have a talk with this kid about the right way and the wrong way to do things,
"You do that grandpa you tell them", said Novella.
My sister was always a person who talks as if she did not care though I knew she did. Her wit was her strength and downfall. She could never stop herself from saying something that was a little bit off. I guess why at the time I hated her for it. I guess I was a little bit of a child back then.
My grandfather walked out in the hot sun, looked out on the large yard, and saw nothing there. The grass from the cut grass blew through the air as he walked the grounds. The air that felt dim and bland as no air had been before. It was not crisp or felt good on your face. It was hard and cold as if it knew that this day would change everything.
"Sammy I don't see anything" my grandfather yelled.
"Honey I don't think that there is anything out here I'm going back in the house", said grandfather.
Then as he started to walk back into the house, he heard a noise from the shed. It sounded like something was rattling the tools in the shred. He stopped for a moment and held his head in the sir and turn back toward the shed.
"Grandpa what are you doing", said Samantha.
"Oh honey I think an animal is in the shred that what you probably say honey I'm going to make it come out for me. Don't worry honey I won't hurt the little critter", said her grandfather.
"I'm not worried about the animal grandpa I'm worried about you. Don't let the little guy get you", said Samantha.
"Wow", said Novella.
She had her hands folded up. Sitting tilted back on her chair as if she was the boss.
"Wow you actually were right there an animal outside. You must be the only person in the world that can sense an animal coming from a mile a way. Wow you must be some freak to have senses like that", said Novella.
"Well we all can't be like you who have no physical attributes at all", said Samantha.
"Well as we all know physical prowess has nothing against the mind. You people who you brute strength has nothing against us intellectuals", said Novella.
"You my sister are something else. Sometimes I think that you are not even my sister how you talk to me you know that", said Samantha.
"Sometimes I wish in wasn't even in this family", said Novella.
Before I could I say another word I heard my grandfather yell. My grandfather had walked in the shadows of our shed to find a man in it. He threw my grandfather on the ground and bitten him on the neck. As I looked through the window, I could see my grandfather struggle to get the man. However, as I looked I did not move. I was so scared then I never seen a thing like it. The man was not big but he could throw my grandfather as if he was a rag doll. I had never seen anything like it in my life. As I watched, my grandfather fight the man. Time stopped for a second. I could hear my sister screaming but I didn't move. I wanted to move I wanted to help him, but all I could think about was my mother. All I could think about was that it was happening all over again. I wanted to cry out but I just stood there looking. I wanted to help but all could feel was this weight on self. It was so hard to move or even speak. I felt as if someone was holding me down as if someone was sitting on my lungs and I could not breathe.
"Samantha", said Novella.
I heard it as if it was from a distance from away. I knew it was my sister but still nothing got through.
"Samantha", said Novella.
"Samantha I need you", said Novella.
Again, I heard her voice and again but nothing got me to go. I was stuck in this different dimension. I could not move I be stuck in a place that made me a stone person.
"Samantha what going on", said her father.
I did not move again or say anything. I could see my father rush up to me but I still in a daze until he shock me a couple of times. Finally, the weight finally lifted from my chest and I spoke.
"Daddy grandfather in trouble there a man outside help him", said Samantha.
"What man Sammy what man could hurt your grandfather?" my father asked me.
My sister spoke up and said, "it was the man from the shadows he found him in the shred please daddy please go help grandpa".
My father grabbed a bat from out the side closet in the back room. It was a steel bat. He held it tight and started to the door then stopped a moment.
"Honey I need you both do something I need you both to call an ambulance for the man and your grandfather. I also want you to stay in the house as I take care of the problem", said her father.
I shock my head saying yes and so did my sister. I order my sister to call. She ran in the back room to the phone in the living room. My father ran outside where I could see my grandfather on the ground. I could see his feet were sticking on the outside of the shred. The sight was a sight that I would never forget in my life. I saw my father run into the shred and then I could hear the sound of the bat on the surface through the open windows. The loud bounce of the steel on a surface was the only I heard as I looked out the window to the yard. Again and again, I could hear that sound. Soon I started to cry as more and more he hit the man. I wondered if he was killing the man, but he kept on hitting the man again and again more and more. He just kept hitting the man. Then the noise stopped for a second. The yard seemed so quiet for that minute o silence. I could hear the grass pass by as the wind move across the window. For the first time that day, I could feel the wind on my face and it felt good. Then I saw my father move across the air all the way across the yard. Then I heard that laugh. That horrible laugh, it was the laugh from the funeral I knew it. It had to be I could never get it out of my mind it was the laugh from that man that my father called uncle. As my father landed on the ground, I could hear a crack as he landed. He got up for a moment and that when I saw that his arm was broke. Then as he tried to get straight up I could see that his leg was also broke. I could not understand what my father was fighting against. What was or who was this uncle. Why was he trying to hurt us? I just did not know what was going on. Then I saw this man come out the shadows with a cloth all around him. As the sun hit his body under the cloth, I could see stream coming from it. It seemed as if he was burning in the sun, but I knew it had to be a lie. I knew that he was not fighting a vampire. I knew in my heart that they did not exist, but I could see stream coming from the man I knew that what I saw was true. I knew I was looking at a vampire, but why was he hurting us what had we done to him to deserve this. My sister came back to see what was going on and she screamed out of the sight of our father on the ground.
"Samantha do something you have to help daddy", said Novella.
"Novella we have to stay here dad can handle this I know it", said Samantha.
"No he can't Samantha he on the ground I think he going to kill him and grandpa needs help to", said Novella.
"I just don't what to do Novella what am I supposed to do", said Samantha.
Novella ran in the back and came back with a butcher knife. She then put it in my hand.
"Now it time to use that brute strength for something", said Novella.
I then opened the door waited a moment and looked at the creature coming near my father. I then ran out into the sun as fast as I could. The creatures looked straight at me as I ran towards him. I knew I could never hit him as I was so I decided to do what any person could so I would out smart the guy. I ran faster and faster until I came just a foot from him then I slid under him. As I slid, I quickly stopped myself and stuck the knife in his back. The creature screamed but them laughed. Then I pulled on the sheet and the creature scream so more. Soon I could see the creature black face. It looked as if it had been burned alive. As I pulled, more the creature started to recoil. I pulled more and more then finally it pulled me off it and ran into the distance as I heard the siren coming toward us. As he left, he laughed and yelled to me soon I will see you again. I caught my breath for a second then crawled a little to my father he had lost conscious from the blows. He seemed to be bleeding badly. There in my back yard I was all alone. I could hear the sirens and the crying of my sister in the background. The sirens it will be something I will have to remember it will something that I will have to live with.
