Ariana Grande Song challenge: Almost is Never Enough FT. Nathan Skyes
Isis strangely ended up having a good night's sleep when she got home. That blissful feeling when she was sleeping didn't last for long though when she woke up and found that her life was still as messed up as when she had went to bed after walking home with...him. The nice sibling. Thinking of him reminded her of the other one, the sibling who had caused all the pain in her life.
One new person in someone's life can make things change so fast. Isis still felt as if this entire past week hadn't happened and was just some distant alternative route that her head had made up while she was asleep. It only took one look at her clothes strewn on the floor and the sight of millions of used up tissues with smudged mascara on them for her to realize that this was really happening. Miranda Realms was real and she had managed to get James to cheat on Isis in just a week. Isis had really thought she'd meant more to James than that.
There was nothing she could do. She was helpless. Realizing that made her start crying all over again.
Her tears didn't stop until there was a loud ring downstairs, one that only happened when someone pushed on the doorbell. Isis knew her parents weren't home. Her mother always went to the gym on Saturday mornings and her father was at coffee with his work friends. This was the routine for her family every Saturday since they moved to this town.
Isis considered not answering the door. What if she didn't know who it was? After all, it could be a serial killer at the door, or one of her parents' friends. Then again, what if it was one of her friends? But did she really want to talk to any of her friends in the condition she was in? The only person she could think of that would see her was Evan, since Sylvia was still mad at her, and Evan would have sent her a text before coming. That settled it. She wasn't going to answer. She was just going to wait until whoever it was went on their merry way.
Then the doorbell rang a second time. A huff escaped Isis' mouth and her eyebrows furrowed together. Who was it? Surely taking a peek out of her window really quickly wouldn't be a bad thing. Standing from her bed, Isis walked to her blinds and peeked through them really quickly. When she saw who it was, she was even more confused.
"Guess I have to get the door then," she grumbled to herself before the person rang again.
She rushed to the door as quickly as she could, well, after making sure it wasn't evident that she'd been crying. After running her hands through her hair one last time, she opened the door.
Miranda's brother stood on the other side with a sheepish smile on his face. He gave a little wave before setting his hand to the side of his body in an awkwardly rigid manner. "Hey."
Isis gulped. "Um, hey." She paused, trying to think of what to say. "What are you doing here?"
Dominik. His name rang loudly in the back of her mind, stirring up memories of last night, after the party, after her heart had been shattered into a million pieces. He had walked her home. Now he knew where she lived. Did Miranda know where she lived? Had he told his sister?
"I just...well...I don't know. When I woke up this morning, the first thing that came into my mind was you and I just wanted to check up on you and see how you were doing. It's the least I can do after what my sister pulled."
The first thing that came into my mind was you. How could he make that sound so...friendly? Isis detected no trace amounts of lust or attraction. All that seemed to be there was concern. Then again, Isis and James had just broken up, and she had just met Dominik. Why would she think there was going to be something going on? Was she just being crazy?
