It took us 5 minutes to get to Joey's house but the whole time he kept on talking to me to make sure I didn't get bored. As we got to his house, he grabbed my arm and turned me to face him. "Jasmynn, I need to tell you something," He said to me, his eyes locked on mine.
"Ok, what's the matter? You're scaring me now," I said to him, the worry sounding in my voice.
"I think I love you. I know it's crazy as we've only known each other a day but it's true. I haven't been able to get you out of my head and you make my life seem normal," He said to me as my eyes widened. I felt the same way but what did he mean by normal? I knew I'd had a hard life which was anything but normal but what did he mean?
"I feel the same way but what do you mean by normal?" I asked him.
"Come inside and I'll tell you," He said, grabbing my hand and pulling me inside. We walked in the door of his house. It was huge! As I looked around in amazement as a little girl with ginger pig tails ran past us, a boy of about ten chasing behind her.
"I didn't know you had any brothers or sisters," I said as Joey started walking upstairs. I followed him into a small room with blue walls and a single bed in the corner. He dropped his bag and sat on the bed before smiling at me and motioning me towards him.
"Lexi and George aren't my brother and sister, this is a care home. I got sent here after my last foster parents had a baby and didn't want me anymore. It's cosy but I'd settled in at my foster home, it's the first place that had felt secure in years," He said to me as he held back tears.
"I know how you feel. I've been brought up in care since I was born. My mum died in labour and my dad was in the army. He was killed in action before my mum had me and my twin brother. I've never met him as they split us up. I got fostered two years ago by Bev and Rob and they decided to adopt me six months ago," I said to him. He just sat there, looking at me.
"You just said that you're a twin right?" He looked at me with a puzzled expression.
"Yeah, why?" I asked him.
"So am I. My mum died giving birth to me too. The only thing I have is this braclet with my name and date of birth on it," He told me as he opened his bed side drawer and pulled out a small gold braclet. He handed it to me and I looked at the engraving. 'Joseph, 13/10/1997'.
"Joey, your birthday is the same as mine," I said, my voice trembling. "Look," I said as I reached over to my bag and pulled out a small box before returning to sit next to Joey. I handed him the box and he opened it. He lifted out a gold braclet with the engraving 'Jasmynn, 13/10/1997'. I looked at Joey. He looked at me. We both just sat there, silent.
"I think you're my twin!" We said to each other at the same time.
