The silence that followed the King’s evaporation was not a peaceful one. It was a vacuum, a sudden and violent absence of the screaming static that had defined the North for three decades.

For a heartbeat, no one moved. The dust of Hansol—the man, the monster, the usurper—settled into the cracks of the shattered marble floor, looking like nothing more than common hearth soot.

Taehyung remained on all fours for a moment longer than necessary. His human skin felt raw, sensitized by the sudden transition from the thick, protective hide of the obsidian wolf.

His lungs burned, tasting the lingering scent of ozone and the metallic tang of blood that had been spilled, but as he gasped for air, he realized the air was different. The oily, necrotic weight of the King’s corruption had vanished.

For the first time in his life, Taehyung inhaled and felt only the biting, honest cold of the mountain winter.
He didn't wait for his strength to return.

He crawled.

His knees scraped against the debris of pulverized stone and scorched silk, but he didn't feel the pain. His Red eyes, slowly bleeding back into their deep, soulful brown, were locked on the slumped figure in the center of the room.

"Jungkook," he rasped. The name felt like a prayer and a jagged blade in his throat.

Jin was already there, his shredded white robes fanned out around him like the broken wings of a swan. The healer’s hands were glowing with a soft, pulsing emerald light—the magic of the Earth trying to soothe the turbulence of the Moon. Between Jin’s palms and Jungkook’s abdomen, the air shimmered with the fading remnants of the Resonance.

"Easy, Taehyung," Jin warned, though his voice was thick with emotion. "The energy is still grounding. If you touch him too fast, the feedback could hurt you both."

Taehyung stopped inches away. He watched as Jungkook’s chest rose and fell in shallow, rhythmic heaves. Jungkook’s face was a map of the battle: a smear of soot across his high cheekbones, a small cut on his lip where he must have bitten it to keep from screaming, and eyes that were wide, glassy, and fixed on the ceiling.

"Kook... look at me," Taehyung whispered, his voice cracking.
Jungkook’s head lolled to the side.

When his eyes finally met Taehyung’s, the golden light within them flickered one last time before settling into a warm, molten honey. A single tear tracked through the ash on his cheek, leaving a clean path of pale skin behind.

"Tae..." Jungkook’s voice was barely a breath, a fragile thread of sound.

"I’ve got you," Taehyung rasped. His voice was ruined, shredded by the growls of his Alpha form. "I’m not letting go. Never again." Taehyung vowed. He reached out, his hand trembling, and Jin finally nodded, allowing the contact.
