Part II: Opener

The air is humid.

It's eighty-eight degrees on the East Coast. The air is stagnant despite the high-powered air conditioner in the corner of the room. The man sitting on the leather chair shifted uncomfortably, unsticking his skin from the material underneath him. But that wasn't the only reason he was sweating.

"Tycho, I know you're nervous. You're allowed to be. But I'm here to help you."

A woman sat in front of him with her hands on her knees. When her friend Xavier suddenly requested that she take on a new patient, she knew it was going to be bad. She just didn't know how bad.

"I- I know, okay? I know." He shot up from his seat, a shaking hand gripping the hair on his head tightly. He shuffled to the window and urgently tugged on the lock like his life depended on it. A hand crossed his vision and covered his, gently moving it from the window. He ignored the urge to shove her away.

She unlocked the window, and Tycho felt his anxiety physically lessen as the ocean's breeze met his skin. It helped immensely, but did nothing to pull him from the flashes of memories in front of his eyes.

Rachel Atkas- the woman from before- knew the best course of action was to leave him be. To let him go to her first. So she sat back down and waited for him to say something to her. Eventually, he did.

"I... Want you to help me. I want to be better. Better for them. But I'm terrified."

"I know, Tycho. But you're stronger than you think you are. You're more than what you feel right now."
