Max had always had a secret crush on her best friend, Chloe, but was never sure if she returned the feelings. Reuniting with her after five years felt so good, like returning to your childhood home. Of course, a sleepover was a must. It would take more than a few hours to catch up with each other.
For what felt like seconds, the two girls talked and talked, changing the album on the stereo every so often. Yeah, Chloe was pretty miffed that Max hadn't contacted her at but they both forgot about that once they were deep in conversation. The pair only realised they'd been talking for hours straight when Max looked outside and noticed everything was pitch black.
Chloe didn't want to stop talking to Max. She never wanted to stop talking to her. Chloe loved Max's company, but she loved Max more. When Chloe thought about Max too long she got a serious case of butterflies, which totally contradicted her rock solid exterior. Chloe Price did not get butterflies thinking about Maxine Caulfield. It'd be too mushy and lovey-dovey.
Max began to yawn and her sleepy brain confused some of her words. She could feel herself drifting off but fought it as much as possible. Chloe knew Max was sleepy, so she lay quietly, allowing the absence of noise to lull her to sleep.
For Chloe, this was one of those nights where no position was comfortable and she was either too hot or too cold. She lay on her front, facing Max. Seeing the girl's steady breathing and hearing her tiny snores helped Chloe feel calmer. Eventually she drifted into a light sleep.
Chloe woke with a start. She remembered having a nightmare but she wasn't sure what actually happened in the nightmare - all she knew was that she felt really unsafe. Chloe became aware of something on her back which wasn't there when she fell asleep. She twisted her head and saw Max's arm draped across her back. Chloe's face blushed bright red as she tried to hide her face in her pillow, despite knowing that no one was there or awake to see her blush. Chloe slowly flipped over, lying on her back. To her surprise, Max didn't roll away. Max shuffled closer and wrapped her arms tighter around Chloe's body.
Max rested her head on Chloe's arm, quietly muttering "I... love you."
Oh no. Sleepy Max was just too cute!
"I love you too, hippie." Chloe tried to suppress her grin.
Chloe could've sworn she saw Max smile.
