I get the feeling that people think this ship is quite obscure but I'm shipping trash sooo

What other ships would you like me to write one shots for? I believe pricefield is the most popular ship but I think it would be fun to write other pairings!

Also, in this one shot we'll pretend that Nathan and Max don't know each other, only recognising the other from walking around school.

~

Max was thrilled to have gotten a job working at Two Whales Diner. Joyce was a huge role model for her, and Max loved to spend more time with her. Because she spent more time with Joyce she got to see Chloe, her best friend, a lot more too. Joyce was in charge of cooking the food - no one's cooking beats her's - and Max was in charge of serving customers.

The diner was pretty quiet that day. Max did love being busy, but sometimes she enjoyed a relaxing shift. It meant she could chat with Chloe more. Chloe sat on one of the stools while Max did odd jobs around the diner.

"So, seen anyone you like lately?" Chloe wondered.

"What do you mean?" Max asked, filling Chloe's mug with steaming black coffee.

Chloe laughed, shaking her head. "You know what I mean! Got any little crushes on anyone?"

Max rolled her eyes. "None at all. I'm not exactly going to find my soul mate in Arcadia Bay, am I?"

Chloe held her hands up. "Hey, you never know. I bet you develop a crush on some hella random person this week."

"Yeah?" Max raised her eyebrow. "How much do you bet?"

Chloe thought for a moment, smirking. "A box of cookies."

Max's eyes widened. She did love a box of cookies... Chloe was good at this kind of thing.

"Fine." Max shook Chloe's hand. "Deal."

All Max had to do was not develop a crush on anyone. How easy was that?

~

A few days passed, and still no crushes. Max didn't have the time to crush on anyone, anyway. Chloe took up a lot of her time with getting her foot stuck in train tracks, narrowly avoiding death and all that. That girl had the grim reaper stalking her.

That was when he walked in.

Max was doing her usual job, minding her own business. She spotted his red jacket come through the door and noticed that he was pretty good looking.

Wowsers.

"Yo!" Chloe clicked in front of Max's face, bringing her attention back to the blue-haired girl.

"Huh? Oh, yeah! That's an amazing idea, Chloe." Max smiled.

"Dude, I know you weren't listening. You were looking at Nathan like you look at your favourite photographs." Chloe smirked. "Does someone... perhaps... have a crush?"

"What?!" Max laughed too loudly, fiddling with random bits of cutlery. "That's ridiculous!"

Max paused to look over at the boy again, before her eyes widened. "Wait, hold on. Nathan? You said his name was Nathan?"

Chloe face palmed. "Oh my GOD, Max. You're hella in love."

"Psshhh..." Max dismissed her, grabbing a mug and the coffee pot.

She sauntered over to the table where Nathan sat, being extra, extra careful not to trip and fall on her face.

"Coffee?" Max asked, noticing that Nathan was also way cuter up close.

"Yes, please." Nathan suddenly pointed at Max. "Wait, I know you! You're that chick that always has her camera."

Max poured his coffee, laughing. "Yes, that's true. My camera is my number one companion."

"I would've thought that girl was your number one companion." Nathan pondered. "I mean, you're dating right?"

"Oh, no. Chloe's just my best friend." Max corrected him.

"Ah." Nathan nodded.

Why does everyone think I'm dating Chloe? Max thought.

"Anyway, what would you like to eat?" Max tried to steer away from the awkwardness.

"Hmm..." Nathan looked over the menu. "What's your favourite?" He asked with a smirk.

Max faltered. Was... was this flirting? Was this classed as flirting? It can't be flirting. But he smirked! Max had an internal dilemma. She pretended to be thinking, but sneaked a glance at Chloe, hoping for some support.

Chloe winked at Max, then used her hands to do rude gestures and point at the two.

Max sighed. Of course Chloe would do that.

Max turned back to Nathan. "Are you in the mood for something sweet?"

Oh god, did that sound wrong?! Max panicked. It probably did. Wow. Please let the Earth suddenly open up beneath me. Falling into an abyss would be less painful.

"You know what?" Nathan made eye contact with Max, making her almost lose her cool. "I am."

Max attempted a smile. "Belgian waffles, then?"

Nathan nodded enthusiastically.

Max returned to the kitchen, taking a deep breath and telling Joyce his order. Max informed Joyce that she was taking her break, too, so she sat down with Chloe.

"Max!" Chloe grinned. "I didn't know you had a flirty side! Even if it was over food."

Max covered her blushing face with her hands. "Ahhh, shut up! He's right there."

Chloe tapped Max's arm. "Oh, and you totally owe me a box of cookies."

Max groaned. "Dammit!"
