The alarm rang and I looked around. I was sleeping on the floor in the living room. Everything was practically cleared out and the only things left were the stuff we were bringing on the plane. I had a backpack that was filled with notebooks and pens. Those contained songs that I wrote in my spare time. Where there was songwriting, you had to play something. I played the guitar and had been since I was 6. My mother had always wanted me to play the piano, but she realized it would be hard to take the piano to places that we traveled. My father suggested the guitar since I could take it anywhere with me. So, on this trip I was taking it with us.
I heard Lyle groan and kick at the sheets. "Oh, shut up! I want to sleep!" He sat up and yelled at the alarm.
Our mother came in glaring at him. "Lyle Anderson Simmons! We have a flight less than an hour from now, so I suggest you stop yelling at clocks and you get up shower and dress!" She demanded. A smirk spread across my lips and I shot up.
"I call it first!" I yelled and ran straight upstairs avoiding my brother's attempts to trip me up. "I will honestly kick you in the face you twit!" I said laughing looking back at him. I quickly shut the door and laughed hard at him throwing a tantrum outside the door. I looked at myself in the mirror. My black hair rested on my shoulders and curled up at the ends. I had dark brown eyes. I didn't look like anything special. I was short at about 5'2" and an average weight. From what I could I see, I knew why no man liked me. I was truly not pretty like all the others at school. Maybe Malibu was different? Maybe the guys there liked girls like me?
After a quick shower I dressed in a flannel shirt and jeans pulling on my boots. As I opened he door my brother snickered looking at my boots. "You and your boots!" He said pointing at them.
"Matthias, these boots can do a lot y'know! Like go up your butt at those snarky comments." I observed and jabbed at his chest.
"Rude." He grumbled.
"Truth." I responded and shoved him into the bathroom shutting the door. I made my way downstairs where Lyle and Matthew were eating muffins. "Aren't you two going to shower?" I asked grabbing a muffin and leaning against the counter.
"Nope, I took one last night." Matthew said smiling.
"And I'm just gonna wait, I also just had to pee and I went outside." Lyle grinned boyishly.
"You are disgusting." I told him and shook my head. My father's came down in his usual shirt and pants as well as boots.
"Good morning you three. Matthias in the shower?" He asked us. Lyle nodded dopily. My father nodded. "We should be getting on the road to the airport soon if we want to get our flight." He told us wrapping his arm around our mother's waist. We nodded and looked up as Matthias made his way downstairs.
"Well for once you actually look clean!" Lyle laughed winking.
"Shut it will yah?" Matthias snapped and made a face at him.
"Both of you knock it off and go to the car." My father snapped. We all looked at each other and took off trying to squeeze through the door at once. We finally all go out and scurried to the car. I climbed in and got into the back. Lyle climbed into the seat next to me. We both stuck out tongues out at the twins and snickered. The back was the wanted seat since we wouldn't be under our parents watchful eye.
With a grunt, my father started the car and drove off to the airport. I stared out the window, thinking about what our new house might look like, what our school looked liked, if we had neighbors, and if I'd find the love of my life here! I glanced to the front and read the time. '5:15 am.' it read. I stifled a yawn and laid my head on Lyle's shoulder shutting my eyes.
Once again in the pass few days, I was rudely shaken awake. "Wake up!" Lyle yelled into my ear. I jumped six feet into the air and slapped him across the face. "Gee Wiz Natalie!" he yelled clutching his cheek.
"Well don't you know that you don't do that to a woman!?" I demanded and quickly climbed out grabbing my guitar and backpack shaking my head. I rubbed my face and trudged after my mother.
The longest time there was going through the security. They had to stop my brothers from fighting on who went first. My father ended up just shoving them to the three men doing the checks. I stood by my mother waiting for them. My father was the last one to go through. We walked towards our gate and sat down. I looked at Matthew. "You know what time the flight is?" I asked him.
He shrugged quickly. "Sometime in the morning." He said. I rolled my eyes and shook my head.
"Thanks genius I could figure that out myself!" I scoffed and pulled out the newest notebook I had. The song that I was currently working on, was called 'Crazy Little Thing Called Love.' (Author's Note: Yes, this is the song by Queen, but this is fiction and my story!) I unzipped my case to guitar, setting my notebook on the floor and started strumming tapping my foot as I sang the song. My mother listened happily. She always loved listening to me sing. It relaxed her and made her happy. I was a real mommy's girl. My mother's happiness was the most important thing to me. If my mother wasn't happy, I don't think that my family was happy. She was truly the rock in our life.
After what seemed like ages a lady's voice came over the intercom. "Flight 275 to Malibu, California now boarding. We want to welcome our first class onto the plane first." I looked at the overly happy lady talking. I let out a sigh and stood to pack my guitar. I zipped it up and put my notebook in my bag. My breath caught in my throat as I was pushed down by someone not paying attention. Lyle cause me and glared at the lady obviously too busy talking with her husband. I rolled my eyes and shook my head.
"The nerve of some people." Lyle shook his head and sighed.
"Think that because they have money, they can walk all over people." I mumbled.
"We now welcome all our other passengers onto the flight." The perky lady said. My family stood and walked towards the entrance. I handed her the ticket and sighed deeply. This was going to be my last time in Texas. I slowly climbed on the plane and took a seat. My family sat around me, and Matthias sat next to me. I looked out the window as the plane started to pull away from the terminal. I let out a sigh and watched as we lifted off the groaned. "Goodbye Texas." I whispered and sighed. "Hello Malibu." I mumbled and leaned back shutting my eyes._____________________________
