It had been about a month in Malibu. We lived a rather small house, it had enough rooms for all of us, but only one bathroom. It was a daily struggle, especially for my mother who had to get up every morning when Lyle was getting ready to go to work himself.
Today was unlike any other, I woke up to the sound of my mother pounding on the door for my brother to hurry up. "Lyle! Hurry! I have a huge interview this morning!" She yelled at him. My eyebrows furrowed and she spoke.
'A big interview? With who!?' I thought. I was always interested in what interviews she was doing since the people were always funny and interesting. I stood and slowly slipped out of my room. "Mom? Can I go with you to your interview?" I asked. She looked over at me and thought about it.
"I don't see why not? I need someone to take notes." She said shrugging. "Go put something nice on and do your hair. We are leaving as soon as possible." She told me. I nodded frantically and rushed to my room. I pulled out a green dress with a collar, and put on some flats. I looked in the mirror and worked on my hair making sure it was good and neat. I went through the process of making sure my room was tidy and clean since I wasn't one for messes in a room much like my brothers.
I opened my door and walked out letting out a nervous sigh. I was going to meet another famous person. I looked up as I heard someone clear their throat. Matthias was sitting on the couch eating cereal. "Going somewhere? At 9 o'clock in the morning?" He asked. I walked over and sat on the couch crossing my arms.
"For a matter of fact, I'm going to an interview with mom." I told him and smirked.
"Oh lucky! Do you know who it is?" He asked. I shook my head.
"No she didn't say..well, I didn't ask." I admitted and chuckled.
"Aren't you going to eat something?" He question. I shook my head and looked at my chipping nail polish.
"No, I'm not. I'm not hungry at this time." I said. Matthias looked shocked.
"You, not hungry?" He gasped dramatically. I laughed and stuck my tongue out at him.
"Shut up." I laughed and looked up as my mother came in.
"Are you ready?" She asked. I nodded and stood.
"You look lovely mother." He commented and smiled.
"Thank you Matthias." She said and walked down the steps to the front door. She pulled her keys off the key rack and opened the door walking out. I waved to my brother and walked after my mother quickly. I climbed into the passenger seat. "Natalie, I want to be calm when we meet these men. I know you like these men." She told me as we drove towards Los Angeles. I furrowed my eyebrows confused.
"Er..alright?" I said tilting my head. I leaned my seat back and shut my eyes. I turned on the radio and instantly, Michael Nesmith's voice started to come over singing 'What am I Doin' Hangin' Round'. I tapped my foot along with the beat and sang along quietly.
After what seemed like ages, we pulled up to a recording studio. This confused me even more. "Could you grab my things from the back?" Mother asked. I nodded and collected the recorder, notebook, and pen she kept in the back. We got out and were met by one of the producers.
"Hello Caroline, and who might you be?" He asked looking at me like I was a child. I frowned harshly.
"Her 16 year old daughter Natalie." I snapped glaring at him. He held his hands up in defense and lead us into a meeting room.
"The boys should be here soon so make yourself at home." He said and left. I examined the room. There was a long table that was tan and had black chairs lining either side of it. On the other of the room there was a white board that was currently empty. There was two windows that had a view of the city and the bustling cars and busses. My mother took a seat at the head of the table. I took a seat next to her and continued to look around bored. There were a couple paintings of flowers on the wall.
After what seemed like ages, the door opened. A man that had a head full of curly brown hair with sideburns, brown eyes to match. He looked to be about 6'0". I instantly knew who this was. Micky Dolenz. The next man to come in, had blonde hair that was draped over his forehead. He had slight sideburns as well. He had light eyebrows that were over brown eyes. He seemed to be somewhere close to 5'10". This was Peter Tork. Next was a short man. He had longish brown hair that rested on his forehead over on his thick brown eyebrows. Much like the others, he had brown eyes. For a fact I knew he was 5'3". This is Davy Jones. Micky took a seat across from me, Peter sitting next to him, and then Davy.
"Hey fellas, what was the rush?" A Texas accent called as he walked into the room. This man had a green wool hat over his brown hair that rested on his neck and flipped up at ends. He had long sideburns and thin brown eyebrows. He was about 6'1". My eyes locked onto the tall texan. This was Robert Michael Nesmith or Mike Nesmith. My heart raced as I look at him sit next to Davy. Mike didn't look at me as he did so.
"Well! It's a pleasure to meet you boys! I'm Caroline Simmons and this is my daughter Natalie." My mother introduced. The boys stuck their hands out to her to shake. She shook their hands. They then stuck their hands out to me. Davy kissed my knuckles and winked. I shook hands with Mike and felt the cold touch of a wedding ring. I started to mentally slap myself.
'Ugh, he's married to Phyllis!' I thought and shook my head as the interview started. Davy kept glancing my way and smiling at me causing me to blush and smile.
As soon as it started, it all ended and the boys had to go. I stood as my mother and the others did. I looked at them, then at my mother. Davy walked over and smiled at me.
"It's a pleasure to meet you Natalie." He smiled and kissed my cheek. I smiled widely and played with my fingers blushing.
"It's a pleasure to meet you as well Davy!" I grinned and kissed his cheek back.
"How about tonight, you and I go get dinner tonight?" He smiled shyly. My eyes slowly went big.
"But I live in Malibu." I told him.
"Oh! Just hang out with us for the day!" He grinned. I looked at my mother for permission. She nodded and smiled winking.
"Alright." I smiled. Mike was obviously listening to this conversation when he spoke up.
"Great! Someone to give Phyllis company in the studio." He cheered. "I'm Michael Nesmith." He grinned.
"Oh I know. I'm Natalie." I said nervously as my palms became sweaty.
"I'm going on a date with her Mike." Davy grinned proudly.
"Well that's good for you and her." He said nodding.
"Let go to the studio doll face." Davy said and wrapped his arm around my waist leading me to the large recording studio.
I couldn't believe it, I was going out on a date with a Monkee! David Thomas Jones out of all of them! I would love to go on a date with Mike, but I understood he was married and it would never happen. Windy would be so jealous when I told her.
