Ava: The Lost Daughter

Chapter 7

The next day we prepared to strike. Me and Opal flew to the top of the building to that we could keep an eye out.

"The test is about to start. They are going to blow up that empty town we flew over yesterday. You are clear to go" Opal told them

"Copy that, we are going in" My mom's voice came out of it. Me and Opal stayed on top, listening and watching. When the weapon didn't work we knew something was wrong. Zhu Li had kept a piece of the weapon but they found out and were chaining her in the test area.

"Oh no" Me and Opal said at the same time. Alarms started going off moments later.

"We got her. We are coming out!" Bolin said through the radio. Me and Opal flew down to where they came out. She blew her bison whistle before running over and hugging her parents.

"Thank you" She told Bolin.

"Lets move" My mom said, eager to get out.

"Kuvira caught Zhu Li and threw her in the town" I told the group.

"What? No! I have to go save her!" Bolin insisted.

"You can't go in there Kid. It's suicide. Kuvira is on to us" My mother insisted.

"Yeah, but we went through to much together. I can't leave her." Bolin continued to insist. "Toph, you said Zhu Li was lying about fixing the cannon. She must have been trying to stop it."

"For all you know she could just have been covering our butt because she made a mistake" Toph told him.

"No, Zhu Li doesn't make mistakes. You guys leave. If we make it out we will make it to the city some how" Bolin ran off.

"Bolin no!" Juicy landed behind Opal. "You guys get out of here I have to go with Bolin. She said and took off.

"This could be our best chance to stop Kuvira" Su suggested.

"Maybe we could take out that weapon" My mom added.

"If you guys all want to get yourself captured again, or worse, that's your business. I'm through" Toph said as she stood.

"Mom, stay here with Baatar senior and Huan" Su said and ran off with my mother and Wing and Wei.

I was so conflicted I didn't know what to do. I decided to follow. We all fought back and forth. I couldn't do much but blow wind in their face. Su went for Kuvira but was thrown back. We blocked ourselves in but we were surrounded and the walls fell. The area around us lifted up knocking away all of Kuvira's men and leaving just us. Everyone else seemed a little surprised since none of us had done that. It was Toph though.

"You give Metalbenders a bad name!" She said pointing up at Kuvira, but not looking at her. We all got onto Juicy and flew off. We landed after a while so that Toph could leave. We all stood around.

"Thank's for coming to save us mom."

"Yeah, thanks chief" It seemed my mom was more comfortable calling her mom chief instead of mom. "I'm sorry for what I said last night, I was just... you know"

"Look, I know I wasn't a great mother, but one way or another, I ended up with two great kids. Good enough to risk my boney old butt for anyway. If you could just find some way not to hate me, maybe that's enough, at least for me"

"Me too" My mom said and actually gave Toph a hug.

"You know, I never had any family except for my brother, up until a few years ago, and reuniting with them made me realize how special it is" Bolin had gone up and wrapped his arm around Toph and my mom while they were hugging.

"Oh enough. Enjoy the ride back to the city" Toph said as she slipped out and left Bolin and my mom who quickly jumped apart.

"Aren't you coming back to Republic City with us Grandma?" Opal asked as she was walking away.

"No. My fighting days are over. Don't tell Korra but my back is killing me now. This is why you didn't see Katara messing with that civil war nonsense. At some point you gotta leave it to the kids." She walked away.

"I want to thank you for coming back to save me, and don't be so hard on Bolin for working with Kuvira. His heart was in the right place" Zhu Li told Opal.

"I think Bolin has worked his way out of the polar bear dog house" Opal said and kissed his cheek.

"Yes! Haha!" Bolin was excited about that.

"We should get going. I'm afraid I have bad news to deliver to republic city. Kuvira is going to attack in two weeks." Zhu Li told us. With that news we left.

When we arrived back in republic city we went straight for the president. Of course we interrupted a meeting. Bolin seemed to be good at that.

"Guy's good, you are all here!"

"What's with you interrupting my important meetings all the time?" Rico questioned.

"Su? What are you..? You're okay" Korra went over to hug her. "I'm so sorry about Zaofu. How did you escape?"

"Opal, Ava, Beifong, and I rescued everyone, but we had a run in with Kuvira. We saw her super spirit weapon up close. Like really close. Way to close" Bolin told them.

"Is she going to use it on Republic city?" Tenzin asked.

"Yes. I found out she is going to attack in two weeks." Zhu Li told them.

"Oh and Zhu Li is on our side now. Actually she never really switched sides and I'm just going to let her explain the whole thing. Zhu Li..."

"I pretended to be close to Kuvira so I could sabotage her weapon. It didn't work but I did over hear her plans to attack." Zhu Li explained.

"I knew she wouldn't stop at Zaofu"

"My guess is, is she's coming by rail. It's the only way she can transport that weapon."

"Then We'll cut the rail lines."

"I agree, but lets get all the citizens evacuated first. Make the announcement. The evacuation is now mandatory"

"We're on it."

"Don't worry Mr. President, I won't let Kuvira take our city." Korra assured the President.
