Chapter 5
"In exchange for the photo you have to go out with me."
Right now it must've been hell for Len. He's not who I want to be at the moment.
How did this happen? Let's backtrack: Stella, Katie's younger sister, who apparently has a massive crush on Len, took a photo. I don't know exactly what's in the photo, but I'm sure it's me with Len getting in the car. The good news is, she didn't actually see me with Len, but the bad news is that she's using blackmail to get Len to go out with her. Unless Len wants to make our secret harder to hide, he'll have to agree with her terms.
Cheap trick, I know. It would've been a lot less complicated if Len's not the most popular guy in school, who has an infamous reputation of not having a girlfriend, despite of his said popularity. It would've been fine if he's just any other guy who secretly dated someone. But he's not just someone. Rumors and gossips will be flying everywhere. And guess what? That really does complicate our situation even more.
For a moment there was silence. I could feel tension in the room, even with me standing outside.
Then Len spoke up. "For how long?" Wait. WAIT. So he is planning to agree? On the good side, he really does want to do what I told him to. Though on the bad side it just meant he'll rather date a 14 year old than a nobody like me. Ouch. Two years isn't a very large age gap, but you know, he'll look like a babysitter with Stella next to him.
"Hmm, not for long. Depends," Stella purred, and I could hear a tapping of the foot. Silence ensued. I could feel sweat trickling down my forehead, nervous of what Len was going to say.
"You promise you'll give it back, and you won't spread to anyone, ever?" he asked sternly. See here, Stella can actually back down her words and spread the photo anyway.
"Yep! Cross my heart and hope to die!" Yeah right. I wish that was a true oath.
I heard him clear his throat. "Okay. Then I'll do it. Whatever it is."
I heard a squeal. "Yes! Thank you so much! We're going to have so much fun together!" she said excitedly. However I want to puke. This is way beyond creepy and intimidating.
"No, don't thank me," Len muttered.
"I can't wait to tell Katie this!" she said.
"No, no, you can't tell anyone, even your sister," Len said patiently.
"Hmph. Fine. A deal's a deal. But I can't wait for tomorrow!" I heard steps coming outside. I scrambled and ran for the next room, which was the science room. My heart was beating widly against my chest. Don't be seen, I told myself. Do NOT be seen.
"Hmm, that's funny. I thought I heard someone," Stella's fainted voice echoed down the hallway. Then I heard retreating footsteps and after that I knew I was safe.
Just as when I opened the door, I was alreadylooking in the eyes of none other than Len himself. He looked surprised and I'm pretty I looked panicked.
"So," he said awkwardly, "you heard what Stella said?"
"Well, yeah, pretty much," I said, shrugging. "What's in the photo anyway. I didn't get to see it."
"Just me leading you into car. But the good thing is, she didn't even saw you enough that she only took half your body." Thank god.
"Okay. So what are you planning on doing?" I asked.
He shrugged. "I'm a man of my words, so I'll do whatever she wants." More like blackmail. I really hate Stella right now. I would love her to be thrown in a pit.
