Think about it. The food trolley on the Hogwarts express sells nothing but sweets. Unless they bring a packed lunch, all the kids eat for most of the day is sweets.
Imagine all these 11 year olds, excited from their first day of school, unable to control the magic which half of them didn't even know existed until about a month before, rowing across a lake together ALL ON A SUGAR HIGH!!
