"How did this all happen?" Donovan frowned as he sat beside me on a bench right outside the Main House where Stark was being held under ground.

I sighed, rolling the back of my finger across the drawings the kids of his pack had done on my knee.

"We arrived in Sicily and I found out that my real family was the Anosovas so Draver convinced me to have dinner with them. Stark and I got into a fight and now the same person who kidnapped me when I was a child had had kidnapped him. Orion and Kaleesi, who we've been running from, have paired up with Erebus. He's the creator of vampires, the god of night. I have a feeling he's the one who decided to turn Stark into a vampire."

Donovan scratched his jaw. "If it helps, I've sent some of my pack members to West Virginia to keep guard on the outskirts of your pack territory. Do you have a plan on how to take them down today?"

I clenched my fist. "Not exactly. Which is why I want to talk to Stark about what to do. Besides,  we can't  stay here long.  If Orion and the gang finds out your pack helped us, you'll be on his hit list.  I can't  have that happening."

Donovan closed his eyes,  his chest rising as he took in the jasmine tree's aroma from either side of the bend.  "Alright. Let's go."

Seeing Stark in this state was painful.  It's twisted my heart to witness him act like a rabid animal on the plane,  but it was even more heartbreaking  to see him eerily silent,  sitting on the floor with his head in his hands.  The  cuffs around his wrists were searing slightly... Like his skin was burning off.

"What are those?" I murmured to Donovan  as we approached  the cage.

"Wood." Stark  answered instead,  almost giving me a jumpscared with his raspy voice.  "The insides are coated  with tree sap and holy water.  It's burns."

I gestured to Donovan to give us some space.  He looked reluctant,  but then complied.

I opened the doors of the barred cage with the keys Donovan  gave me and sat down next to the open door,  straight across him.

"So why don't  you use your affinity to slice through that wood?"

He lowered his gaze.  "It's  the only thing that's keeping me from lunging  at you right now.  Besides, the pack feels safer with me tied up. And so should you."

"You're beginning to sound more and more like your old self every day." I traced the key into the concrete,  not really changing the landscape.

"Is that a good thing or bad thing?"

I shrugged.  "I'm not sure,  if I'm being honest."

I got up and walked over to him,  noticing his tense posture.

"Relax. I'm  not going to do anything to you Mr.Hybrid."

He shook  his head, his blond hair scruffy. "It's more of what I might do to you."

I unshackled him with a gold pick on the ring of keys and helped him up. "Have they been eaten?"

Stark shook his head. "The thirst passed once I had your blood...and for that I am very sorry. I never meant to hurt you. It was just carnal blood lust, the kind I haven't felt in a long time." he slipped in hand in mine. "And I'm sorry for ruining everything between us-"

I gave him a strict glare as we walked outside until the afternoon light poured on us.  "It's not alright, even if it's not your fault, but that's no reason for you to speak like you're some burden to me. You're my mate, Stark. You're mine. My responsibility, my love, my everything and why aren't you burning in the sunlight?"
