“Is something going on, Karen?” I asked, looking down at New York.

“Nothing is happening right now that isn’t under the control of the secret services,” she informed me, to which I made a strange sound and lay on my back, looking at the red sky.

Today's sunset was damn beautiful.

I lay there for a while, just thinking.

If someone had told me six months ago that this was what my life would be like, I would have laughed at them. Because if they had really told me that I would be bitten by a damn spider, given powers and become a superhero. If they had told me that I would find a friend, someone like a good friend, whom I'm a little afraid of. That I would have a living family member who would welcome me with open arms and be the most wonderful person in the world, whom I would also love very much. That my worst nightmare from the orphanage would be begging for my forgiveness... And that I would be the one controlling Mr. Adams's life, not him controlling mine...

It all seemed so... unreal.

“Well, let’s go back to the apartment.” Saying this, I stood up and stood at the very edge of the roof.

A pleasant breeze blew through my no longer long hair, as May had cut it a bit.

I folded my mask down and then leaned forward slightly, just letting my body fall limply down.

Once.

Two.

Three.

Four.

Five.

I opened my eyes and then shot a web at the building, taking off. I began to fly above the busy streets, and as I got closer to the ground, I heard various screams, mostly children calling "Spider-Man," and older people pointing at me, saying something.

I don't even know at what point it wasn't just to feel needed.

Once I was in Queens, I felt something strange. I was already familiar with that strange feeling, and I knew it meant something bad was happening nearby, out of my sight.

I jumped down onto the sidewalk, looking around.

There was only a police station nearby, where the policemen did almost nothing.

There was almost no one on the sidewalks and roads.

Without hesitation, I took a few steps forward, looking everywhere. I had gone about fifteen meters when I heard something. I strained my ears, trying to identify where it was coming from. It sounded more and more like a muffled voice. I closed my eyes and took a few steps forward again, but the further I went, the fainter my hearing became. So I turned back, then turned right, which proved successful, and then walked as far as I could to the back of the police station, which looked as if no one was inside. By the time I was behind the building, the voice was already very clear to me.

Of course my sixth sense was already working.

"I beg you, don't kill me."

These words were enough for me to know that something was happening there that shouldn't be.

I shot around the corner, planning to immediately spot at least two bandits and one poor guy who had been attacked. I'd shoot the net at the bad guys, disarm them, and everything would be fine.

What I didn't expect, however, was that as soon as I rounded the corner, I would see in front of me someone dressed in black tactical gear, with a mask covering his face from the nose down.

I was so disoriented that for the first second I didn't even move. The man, I gathered, took advantage of this, shoving me hard to the side.

I hit the wall with a bang, and the first thought that came to my mind was that he really had a lot of strength.
