Clichés, I get it.
Who doesn't love a cheesy, overused teen fiction love story? I'm a sucker for romance, and if you can make a cliché your own, then I'm all over it.
BUT
There's one specific cliché I can not read.
Let me briefly explain the entire plot of this cliché;
Hi my name is Katie and I'm your average, boring white girl. I go to North Weston High and you've got your jocks, goths, nerds, geeks, and anything in between. And then there's me. I'm just average along with my extremely attractive redheaded white best friend who is also average. Suddenly the most popular boy in school is very attracted to me and we fall hopelessly in love but then we get in a car accident. Not any other incident leading to a head injury. A car accident. Where I fall into a coma and the doctors all think I'm a goner until my boyfriend talks to me and suddenly I wake up but I've lost all my memory and the popular boy who didn't notice me until like two months ago struggles to make me fall for him all over again (:
Where's the lie?
Okay I get it. You want to be popular and you think using that same fucking storyline is going to get you a ticket into the vip lounge for the popular wattpad book authors.
You know what?
Sure. You get millions of reads on your story. Great. Congratulations. Here's an award for your crappy, unoriginal plot.
It's gotten to the point where if I even read the word amnesia I will just ignore your story. It's physically impossible for me to click on read story when I already know what's going to happen.
I was reading a book on Wattpad.
Great book. Great. The characters were original, there were many twists and turns, the depiction of the scenes and characters was amazing. I loved it.
And then the two main characters got in an accident.
Oh no.
Not just any accident.
A car accident.
Let's take a guess. What do you think happened to the main characters after so said car accident?
YOU GUESSED IT.
AMNESIA.
I was utterly disappointed to the point I stopped reading all together. Just stop with the overbearing cliché.
Hey. If you want to write a cliché, be my guest. I love em. But don't just write it for the popularity, and don't follow the cliché plot to the extent that I wouldn't even have to read the book and I could know what happens. Make it original. Make it yours.
