Academy of Seraphia- A school that looks a lot like a castle. This school, which, most of this book takes place in; is only for half-blooded demons(warlocks), werewolves, and exposed humans.

Demons- Creatures that usually serve the nine fallen angels. Sizes viery and so do their features are never alike. Depending on the species of demon they can look a lot like goblins. They are also weak to silver, and/or Marked blades.

Familar- A demon in which any creature can summon; these demons are based off their master's personality and which species they are until that master dies. Once a familiar's master dies, they get contracted to a new person. Some familiars choose to take on their natural form. A person can have more than one familiar, however that is rare. Some familiars can use magic, as long as their master can too.

Ichor- Blood of a demon. It's a black color, and if touched by a living person or plants it will burn it.

Marked Blade- A metal or a full weapon with Latin or demonic writing and markings. The Latin inscriptions indicate to the wielder that, that weapon is used for killing demons. Whilst the demonic markings can be used by demons or familiars.

Nine Princes of Hell- These figures consist of Satan, Lucifer, Lillith, Asmodeus, Mammom, Beelzebub, Leviathan, Belphegor, and Abaddon. (There are a lot of resources out there, I got as close a possible based off of Cassandra Clare's take on this subject and my own)

Soul-mates- When a werewolf, and any other species (not including fullblooded demons) are chosen by, the moon goddess, Luna to be together. The werewolf Marks their Soul-mate or just their mate. Most werewolves never find that one person they're destined to be with.

Vampire- Children of the night. Unless hundreds of years old, or possessing some kind of spelled jewelry; these creatures can't come out during the day without getting severely burned. Vampires feed on humans' and animals' blood to gain strength and maintain their immortal state. The older the vampire, the stronger and more powerful. These creatures can compel humans, unless thousands of years old, they can compel another vampire.

Ward- A spell used to protect a person or thing. Wards used by warlocks are strongest when in groups. Wards can keep anything and anyone out as well.

Warlock- A half human, half demon man or woman. Warlocks can't have children of their own; however they do use magic. They stop aging at twenty or later, then they ever so slowly grow old.

Werewolf- Humans that shift into a wolf at will. They are not weak to wolf-bane however, silver does weaken them. Werewolves heal fast unless silver is the cause of the injury. Werewolves live a slightly longer life span than humans. Some people say, that werewolves are humans that have demons in the form of a wolf when they shift. This statement is an argument that cannot be won, there is evidence that it could go both ways.

Witches- Men and woman that look like humans, but have magic and do spells. Some tell fortunes, some use magic to get money. Witches can live for over a hundred years, they age a lot like humans. They can have children of their own.
