Chapter Seven: Hazel
Being inside Cody’s car was better than being in Tracey’s. Everything was clean and all his CDs were arranged alphabetically.
“So I was thinking we could watch the “Haunting in Connecticut”
I’m not into horror movies but I need to give a good impression to Cody so I just nodded.
“What’s up with you and Max?”
“We’re fine. He’s just sometimes…..annoying that’s all”
“Maybe he wants to get your attention, he’s a kid after all and almost all kids want to have attention”
“Well he definitely got mine”
We reached the movie house and went to buy tickets. The movie starts at nine and it’s only seven thirty.
“Do you want to have some dinner first?” he asked noticing that we have to wait one and a half hour for the movie.
“Let’s just buy some burrito and wait at the park” I pointed at a park nearby. It was already dark so there would be less people there.
He looked puzzled but agreed to my idea.
When we were young, our parents would take us to the park and let us play around until sunset. Cody usually would feed the ducks that swims across the lake. After feeding the ducks, I would grab him by the arm drag him towards the swing. We would talk and joke around until the time has come for us to say farewell.
I lead the way towards the park. We kept on walking, looking for a good place to eat our burrito. Finally, I saw the perfect place. I ran towards it and I could hear Cody shouting “Hey! Wait up”. I finally stopped and sit on the swing. He came to me panting.
“You run fast” he said trying to breathe normally. He looked at the swing like our childhood memories came rushing back to him.
“Do you still remember?” I said. He looked at me with those gorgeous blue eyes of his and smiled.
“How could I forget?” he finally sat down on the empty swing seat. “You would drag me here and tell me silly jokes” he laughed. He’s so adorable when he laughs.
“Knock knock” I said
“Who’s there?” he replied
“Nobody” I said
“Nobody who?”
I didn’t say anything and looked straight ahead.
“Nobody who?” he repeats it again. He tilted his head of confusion. Finally he said “Oh okay” he was now laughing and I was joining him.
“I can’t believe you took so long” I said trying to calm down.
“Well you always said that I was slow” he replied. It is true that Cody get’s things slowly. Ever since we were little whenever I tell him a joke he couldn’t get it the first try which makes me laugh so hard.
“True” I didn’t notice the distance between us now was shorter. I could feel his breathing and his eyes were so much more wonderful up close.
“I wasn’t given a chance to tell you how beautiful you are” he whispered. “From the moment I saw you at our house, time seemed to freeze. Everything just seemed to stop”
“Oh Cody, please don’t lie” I said “you sucked at lying”
He smirked “I’m not lying. I’m simply telling the truth. You are the most beautiful girl I ever laid eyes on”
His lips met mine and I could feel fireworks exploding inside my body. The world just vanished. All I could think about was Cody is kissing me. Reality sets in when he backed away smiling.
“What’s wrong?” I asked
“We’ll be late for our movie” I didn’t notice that it was already 8:45. I silently cursed. I can’t believe that the moment was now over.
He got up and handed me his hand saying “Come on, Part two will be coming up” that made me smile. I hope there is a part two of the kiss because this is too short.
