Chapter Seventeen: Hazel
I don’t know for how long I was in the ICU. I didn’t pay any attention to the time now. All I want was to be with Max. Stay Max. Don’t leave me, was on my mind.
A door opened with a bang. I checked it out and found the nurse with two guards beside her. One of them was holding the disguised doctor, Cody.
The nurse pointed in my direction and yelled “That’s her! She’s disturbing the patient. Get her!”
Following her orders the guard holding nothing grabbed my arm and dragged me across the room.
I screamed, “Max!....let me go, I need to be with my brother” I tried to free myself but he was so strong.
“Max!” I screamed one last time before I reach the door.
I kept my eyes on Max then suddenly I saw movement. “Stop! He’s moving! Stop!” finally, the guard let me go.
Max’s eyes opened. His eyes met mine. I ran towards him.
“You’re alive!” I said. Tears were dripping. My brother is alive. This is my happiest day ever. I could hear the nurse telling the guards to call the doctor.
“Max, you’re alive” I said. He was smiling at me.
“I would never leave my big sister” I held his hand. His hands were warm and so alive. I kissed it and never let go. There’s no way I’m letting you go from now on, I said to myself.
“Thank you for staying” I don’t know what to say. My happiness cannot be described through words.
He smiled from ear to ear then said “I’m sorry for making your life miserable. I just wanted you to be with me but it’s selfish”
Cody approached us. Max continued “I have to let you go and live your life”
“No Max” I said
He raised his hand gesturing for me not to argue with him. “I realized that I cannot always have you. I must share you with other people” he looked at Cody. “You are the perfect match for my sister. Take good care of her but if you ever break her heart, I would kick you in the ass. I know I’m 12 but I can do it” that sentence made me laugh.
I kissed Max’s forehead and grab Cody’s hand. The two people I care about are here with me. This just makes my night more wonderful. Life is now perfect for me, I cannot ask for anything more.
