¨Ah, the sun feels so nice¨ Keira sighed, leaning on the tail of a large black dragon.
¨Odd, seeing as it's winter¨ the dragon rumbled to the young girl. Keira looked up at his scaly face,
¨you sound worried Achnologia.¨ The dragon didn't look at her but out at the high mountains that made up the maze of Dragon Country. Keira stood and kicked a lava rock boredly, ¨so, what are we doing today?¨ She asked Achnologia, the dragon stood up and stretched his wings, the shadows from them poured over the hard, red ground. Keira watched him and almost fell over when the ground shook with terrible tremors. She stumbled and looked around to see where the rumbling was coming from. A shadow fell over Achnologia and Keira, in an instant they were attacked by people with magical wings. Achnologia roared and tried to fend off the unrelenting force of the winged people, but there were too many and they dove out of the way of his attacks with ease, as though they practiced it. A couple of them grabbed Keira and tied her arms together. ¨Achnologia!!¨ Keira screamed as she was lifted into the air. The black dragon's slitted eyes focused on Keira. Shadows gathered at his mouth and he roared a beam of light blue magic at the winged people's floating fortress. Keira and her attackers were hit with the attack but they didn't go down. More wizards came out of the floating building. They dropped Keira on the hard earth surrounding the building and raced to join their comrades to fight against the dragon. Another roar from Achnologia, high pitched this time, split Keira's ears and she saw all the dragons in Dragon Country take flight above the mountain tops and fly away from the mountains towards the far north, out of Fiore. Keira looked down to see Achnologia's head pressed to the ground, thousands of winged wizards were on top of him casting spells and containing the raging dragon. A sharp pain flooded Keira as someone hit her in the back of the head and she was knocked unconscious. When Keira woke up again her arms and legs were restrained to a metal table. She pulled on one but it didn't budge. Her body felt weak and she only saw blurry images of her surroundings. A door opened and a young man with dark brown hair walked in, his green eyes glinted with triumph. Keira had never seen this man before but her memory was foggy -- no, she didn't remember anything. He seemed to not even notice Keira, he addressed the group of people behind Keira's head.
¨Today is a very prosperous day comrades, we have captured a dragon slayer!¨ The whole room erupted in cheering, Keira had no idea what he meant by dragon slayer but she felt happy for them. The man then turned to Keira, and ordered a small woman at a console to release Keira. She nodded and pressed a button which unlatched all the metal restraints. The group of people exited the room and it was just Keira and the brown haired man in the room. Keira sat up and looked the man in the eyes, he had a puzzled look on his face which concerned Keira.
¨Why are you looking at me like that?¨ Keira asked, the man ignored her question and spoke in an authoritative voice.
¨Welcome to the Guardians, we saved you from a terrible dragon attack, without us you would have been lunch.¨ Keira was taken aback, she was attacked? ¨I am Felix, the Head Guardian, I'll show you to your sleeping quarters.¨ Inside was a dresser, bed, nightstand, and bathroom. ¨Here you are, make yourself at home.¨ Felix said and left the room, locking the door behind him. Keira was surprised to hear she had been attacked by a dragon, she did not remember but it must have been traumatic. She yawned and went into the bathroom to wash up then take a quick nap. She went in front of the mirror and turned on the light. What she saw horrified her. Her once fair, smooth skin was polluted with black scaly hide in certain parts. The left half of her beautiful, young face was hide and her eye was yellow, the pupil slitted like a snakes. She hyperventilated, unable to pry her eyes from her reflection. Tears welled up in her right eye but her left, yellow eye stayed dry and emotionless. She ran into the room and opened the dresser. In the top drawer a black jacket with a hood was in there. She put it on and pulled the hood so far over her face that the shadows from the hood covered her ugly, mutated face. She fell onto the bed and buried her face into the hard pillow, she tried to remember what happened to her but all she could remember was the Guardians.
¨Oh, what now?¨ Keira asked herself, half crying into the pillow.
