Lunch had barely started when everything changed.
We were sitting at our usual picnic table beneath the shade tree, half-eating and half-talking about absolutely nothing, when the hairs on the back of my neck stood straight up.
That feeling again.
That same sick, crawling sensation.
Like eyes were on me.
Watching.
Waiting.
I slowly turned my head.
And there he was.
Standing near the far end of the courtyard by the fence—just outside the cluster of students—a man in a black baseball cap and sunglasses, pretending to look at his phone.
But he wasn't looking at his phone.
He was looking at us.
At me.
My entire body went rigid.
"Guys," I whispered, not taking my eyes off him. "Don't make it obvious."
Immediately, all three of them straightened.
Kai subtly glanced over first.
Then his entire face changed.
"Wait," he muttered.
My eyes snapped to him. "What?"
Kai squinted harder.
"No way... no freaking way..."
"What?!" I hissed louder.
He pointed subtly. "I know him."
My stomach dropped.
"From where?"
Kai's eyes widened. "Your birthday party. The night we first met. He was one of the caterers."
Levi suddenly cursed under his breath.
"No way."
"What?" Cisco asked.
Levi's face paled.
"I've seen him too. At my brother's restaurant. He was one of the waiters there one night."
Silence.
Then every single one of us slowly looked back toward the man.
He realized.
His head jerked up.
And the second our eyes locked—
He turned and bolted.
"GO!" I shouted.
All four of us exploded out of our seats.
Students screamed as we tore through the courtyard, lunch trays crashing behind us. Teachers yelled after us, but none of us cared.
