I woke up the next morning in a daze. I was beyond sleepy. I was up really late contemplating WHY the hell I said Oli's accent was "cute."

Okay Autumn, I thought, get a hold of yourself. You were probably just really happy that Ryder asked you on a date and it just slipped. Yeah that's probably it.

I smiled and let out a joyous sigh because of the thought of Ryder and I being together. I figured I may as well relax and catch a couple more hours of sleep before my alarm goes off. I inhaled deeply and exhaled.

That's weird, I thought, it smells like something's burning. Mom's probably just cooking breakfast.

I chuckled softly and closed my eyes to go back to sleep.

Suddenly a loud, deafening beeping sound alarmed through the air and literally scared me half to death. I actually fell out of my bed, that's how loud and offsetting it was. The beeping continued and I covered my ears tightly. I was already not in the best mind set considering I only got about a half hour os sleep, but now this beeping was preventing me from getting any more.

I stomped over to my door to go downstairs and get to the bottom of this. As I reached for the doorknob, my hand was nearly singed. "Ow! What the hell!" I screamed, blowing air onto my burning hand. I then grabbed a random shirt off my floor and used it as a glove to open my door so I wound't get burnt again.

"Mom, what the --" I started as I opened my door. That's all I was able to say before my room began to be engulfed in flames and  thick, black smoke. I screamed and squinted my eyes; I fell to the floor and began to scream some more. It was no use screaming though; no one would be able to hear me over this fire alarm.

I began crying and choking at the same time from smoke inhalation. There was so much I wanted to do with my life still. I wanted to travel the world. I wanted to get my own place with a friend. I wanted to get married. I wanted to have kids. All these thoughts were running through my mind as I continued to choke and cry uncontrollably. I crawled into a corner of my room as far away from the flames as possible, but they were travelling fast.

Suddenly I saw a dark figure emerge into my room. Fireman? Jesus? The Grimm Reeper? All I know if that they quickly scooped me up into their arms. I'm not really sure what happened after that because I took one look at them, and I knocked out cold.

I hazily opened my eyes and looked around at my surroundings. I tried to say "Where am I?" but my throat was K I  L L I N G me. It even hurt to take deep breathes. Someone then shushed my softly and put a finger over my lips. I looked at who it was and it was Oli.

"What am I doing here?" I managed through a very raspy whisper.

"Your house caught fire. It didn't completely burn down, but it's a hazard to live in at the moment, so you and your mom are gonna be living here for a couple weeks or even months until the builder guys can repair everything," Oli said.

"WHAT?!" I choked, and immediately regretted it due to my burnt up throat.

"I know, isn't it like a dream?" Oli said sarcastically.

"How did I get here? I thought I died," I said quietly.

"Oh, funny story actually. So I heard your mom screaming like a psychopath outside. So I stuck my head out my window and just as I was about to tell her to keep it down, I heard her scream "SOMEBODY SAVE MY BABY!" So me, being the heroic muthafucka I am, I quickly dived into your room and saved your ass," Oli said with a triumphant smile.

My eyebrows shot up in shock. "Wow. . . thank you Oli, I don't know what to say."

"I think your knight in shining armor who saved you from sure disaster deserves a little reward," Oli said bouncing his eyebrows up and down like the little piss off he is.

I then grabbed his head, pulled it closer to mine, turned it to the side, and gave him a kiss on the cheek.

"Hmm.. good enough. For now," he said with a wink and I just rolled my eyes.

"What time is it?" I managed to say.

"A quarter til 9," Oli said.

"At night?! I've been asleep all day?! I missed a whole days worth of meals?!" I yelled, or at least attepted to yell but I had a pretty pathetic excuse for a voice at the moment.

"Fatass," Oli said.

I flipped him off.

"So where am I gonna sleep?" I asked Oli.

"Right there where you are, duh. My bed," he said.

"Oh. . . well where will you sleep?" I asked.

"I don't know, I'll probably make myself a bed in the garage," he said with a shrug.

"Oh.." I said feeling a bit guilty for stealing the guy's bed.

"So how was school today?" I asked him.

"Pretty good I guess. Your friend Lulu was all up on Matt though," Oli said shaking his head.

". . . Lulu? . . . you mean Kat?" I corrected.

"Oh yeah, that one. Around 5'2. Pretty cute. Black hair?" He inquired.

"Yeah that's - - wait you think Kat's cute?" I asked quickly.

"Hmm. . . well yeah. She's cute." He said.

"Oh. . yeah she's cute." I said feeling a bit jealous.

I don't think I was jealous because Oli said she was cute, I just think I was jealous because a male told me that he thinks my best friend is cute. I think it's just in a girls nature to feel a bit jealous when these kinds of things happen, right? Right.

An hour passed and Oli and I just kept making casual small talk. 10:30 rolled around and Oli said, "Well I better get going to bed, I don't wanna be tired tomorrow. Your mom's probably not even gonna let you go to school because of your throat. So anyways.. good night." He said.

"Good night." I said as he began to walk towards his door to go to the garage.

"Oli, wait!" I said.

He turned around. "Yeah?" He asked.

"Um. . . I don't really wanna sleep in here alone. . .I'm kinda scared," I said. Humiliating, but true. I was pretty scared of the dark.

Instead of making fun of me, Oli just smiled and said, "Alright then, I'll sleep in here with you."

I smiled and nodded as Oli left to go get blankets.

I took as deep of a breath as my petrified lungs would allow and closed my eyes to begin to fall asleep.

Suddenly I felt another body next to me on the narrow twin sized bed. Oli's arm very slowly (to not make it obvious) but surely slid onto my waist and pulled me closer to him.

Instead of resisting I went along with it and nuzzled my face into his neck.

I inhaled, exhaled, and the gently fell into a beautiful nights sleep.
