M: "Paint, but you don't strike me as an artistic guy," Artemis said tiredly, "Russia lets his soldiers hunt in the woods if they want to, we could do a bit of that if you want."
Leilong's ears perked up at the mention of hunting. He yawned and hopped off the bed to join them. The lieutenant tried to talk him down, but the dragon wasn't having it; he was going to come whether they liked it or not.
"Well, I guess we got the hunting hound, so might as well go grab the guns," Arty shrugged, "I think the hunting rifles are kept separate from the battle ones, let's go find them."
N: "Hunting it is," Wolfgang smiled, "let's go and get you relaxed."
"I wouldn't really associate hunting with being relaxed," Johann shrugged, "but you do you. Have fun, the three of you."
M: "I wouldn't either, but from what I've heard, you need to keep you and him entertained, or shit hits the fan," Artemis stated, "either way, might as well do something productive and go get dinner, we'll be back in a few hours."
With that, they headed off to get the weapons, hopped on a side-by-side, and drove to the recommended hunting grounds. It was quite far away from the base, since the loud noises would scare away anything within a three to four-mile radius.
"What kind of hunting do you prefer?" the Mandarian asked once they reached their destination. "I don't usually hunt, but my buddies showed me tracking a couple of times, and it seems more interesting than tree stand hunting."
N: "Small game hunting," Wolfgang answered, "well, I'm guessing that hunting wouldn't be a normal pastime anymore, but I wouldn't have minded going out with my friends to hunt larger game, but on my own, I preferred the smaller critters."
As they started walking through the woodlands, the Saxon kept an eye out but kept talking, "It's moments like these that I wish Heinrich was here. He was always at home when we went hunting, something he's so familiar with." He even smiled as he added, "he would always make fun of me when I missed a shot, then rub salt in the wound by shooting the animal I was trying to aim at. That man knew his way around a gun."
M: "He certainly sounds interesting. It must have been hard to come back to life without your friends and family. I can't imagine how that would feel," He commented.
Leilong made a sound of agreement. What he was agreeing to was unclear, but he rubbedhis head against Wolfgang's hand in some form of comfort. They left the conversation there and focused on finding any animal tracks, hoping to find something foraging through the spring snow.
They managed to track down a flock of Capercaillie, which Artemis described as the Russian turkey. He came up with a plan to send Leilong into the flock to chase them into a nearby clearing so they could get a better shot, and he was welcome to bring down any that he could catch.
"Try to go for at least two, there are a lot of mouths to feed at the base," he explained toWolfgang as they went to get into position, "if we're lucky, they might let us taxidermy one of them, just as a little memento of the trip."
N: "That would be nice," Wolfgang nodded as he raised his gun and aimed at the flock, and after taking a deep breath, shot. He smiled a bit as he saw that one of the birds had collapsed, so he reaimed and helped shoot as many capercaillie as the base would need.
After a while, and when Leilong was done having fun and running after the fowl, the pair walked into the clearing to collect their spoils.
"I say this is a good day," the Saxon muttered as he held the capercaillie up by their legs, "there's plenty of them to eat."
