The End

The Onceler grabbed my arm. "I have the answer," he said. "The answer to 'Unless'. It means unless we find that person we are willing to better ourselves for, nothing can be changed. Well I found you, and I'm not going to let you go. I'm going to change. I'm going to fix things. We have to fix this. I don't care about the money or fame. I just want to grow the trees back and have you with me while I do it. I'm so sorry for everything I've done. I treated you horribly and put my company first when you were really all I needed."

I looked him in the eyes. I nodded. "I want to be better too. And we can fix this. It's just going to take a little work. And you shouldn't feel bad about what happened in the past. We're going to improve together. We're going to prove to ourselves, each other, and the trees that we understand what's important."

And with that we began work on growing the tree seed together. We used 15 cents that the Onceler had saved to buy soil from far away. We used the nail to build a plot for the tree to grow on. A great-grandfather looking snail ate the weeds away helping us a little, and the tree grew beautify.

One day, upon stepping out of the house, I looked up at the sky. It was blue and beautiful.

I ran upstairs to the bedroom we now shared. "Once, come look!"

We ran back outside to see the Lorax?? The Onceler hugged me and then ran and hugged the Lorax. "Hey, buddy! You're back." "You got my message," Said the Lorax, gesturing to the "Unless" engraving.

We nodded and all hugged again. 

I'll never forget that day the barbaloots and swammes and humming fish returned. Life was just so much more wonderful. And I had  the Onceler and the Lorax to thank for that. And maybe myself too. Just a little.
