School. The one thing I dreaded the most. It was only Tuesday and I was already falling apart again. What would it take for me to have one good day. Everything in the world!
I got to school in one piece, though. I was first greeted by Kacey, who was more than happy enough to see me.
"Hey there." she said happily.
"Hi." I said unwelcoming, only because I was tired and it was only Tuesday.
"Did you hear about the new guy? He just started today. Oh my gosh, is he cute! But he doesn't beat the one I love. Adam. Ugh, he's so perfect. By the way, you have to meet, Adam."
I smiled widely at her excitement, "Totally."
"Okay, so I want you to meet this new guy, because he seems your type. Plus, he is soooo nice!" she seemed to be really excited about me meeting him.
"You've talked to him?" I questioned.
"Definitely! Becauuuseeee..." she took a long pause, almost unbaring.
"What?!" I yelled in excitement.
"Okay! He's my cousin, Avery."
"Describe," I said immediately following.
"Ohhhh, captivating brown eyes along with a killer smile. Short brown hair. Perfect just for you." She definitely knew what she was doing. And maybe if I just get to know him, I could completely forget about Trevor and Brett. I didn't think Brett and I would ever talk again, so I forgot about the possiblilies. "Oh look! He's right there!" I cowered in embarrassment.
"Kacey!" I whispered loudly.
"Avery, get over here!" she yelled across the lobby.
As I turned to face the boy walking towards me, I felt like I was in some movie where everything is in slow motion and the shy girl turns around to notice a hotly attractive boy walking in her direction, smirking at her. My life literally felt like that moment. He did some head nod to Kacey. She laughed and pulling him over to me. Can you say "awkward."
"Aves, my cuz, this here is the wonderful Emerson. Meet her. Get to know her. Cuddle with her. Have fun you two!" Then poof. She was out of sight.
I stood there awkwardly, looking at everyone but him.
"So..." he started. "It's nice to meet you..."
"Yep." What was wrong with me?
"You...okay? You seem a little put off by me," he stated uneasily.
I shook my head. "Sorry, I'm just going through a lot of things right now. Sorry, if I seem...out of it."
"It's cool," he took a short pause, "Anything I could help you with? Algebra? Chemistry? Like-" he started laughing at his humor. I laughed to and answered,
"No, It's nothing like that though."
"I see." He nodded his head and started down the hallway; I followed immediately after.
"You know, I didn't really think you'd be so quiet. It's not a bad thing. You just look stronger or more confident than you actually are."
I replied, "I get that alot these days."
He gave me a generous smile and said, "It's alright. Things get better. The more you smile, the more the sun shines." I blushed at his comment. "Well, I better get going. Don't wanna miss homeroom! I really liked talking to you. Nice meeting you, Emerson."
I smiled girly-ly, "You too, Avery."
"The suns already shining!" I giggled. "See you around."
He turned down the left hallway and went to homeroom. I stood there in the intersection of the school with my arm crossed across my chest. I couldn't stop smiling. I had to admit, I was pretty impressed how sweet he was. He was definitely something new, something new this school needed.
My smile slowly started fading as I heard the bell rang. Homeroom. Before I could make it all the way to homeroom, Kacey caught me in the hallway.
"I saw Avery walking to homeroom with a smile plastered on his face! Guessing it went really well?" she wondered.
I nodded and continued with the details, "Yeah. He is quite the gentleman." She gushed and clapped her hands excitingly. "He said the sun shines when I smile." She made an "aw" face. I blushed.
"That's so cute. You know," she exphasized taking me in her arm, walking me to homeroom, "he's actually from Maryland. Weird, right? Well, he moved down her with me and my family, because his family has been struggling. He actually had to break up with his girlfriend when he moved. I'm just guessin' he wanted a new start, you know?" I nodded. He had a girlfriend. Totally didn't expect that.
We finally got to homeroom. She set me on my way and walked to hers.
The rest of the day was just really slow. Unfortunately, Avery wasn't in any of my clases. I shrugged it off and followed throught the next two days which went pretty quickly. I hadn't gotten time to talk to him within those two days. But I did see something interesting. And surprising.
*Thursday*
Alone, I was walking to lunch with my books in my hands. Being the clutz I am, I tripped over my own feet and fell on my face. Gathering my books, I noticed shadows under the door of an empty classroom dancing. Not literally dancing but moving. I slowly stood up, keeping my distance from the room to see who they were. Yes, I assumed there were two people because empty locked classrooms and the hit rooms to make out. Weird, right?
I peaked in a little and noticed Brittany sucking the face off some guy. I couldn't tell but with the angle I was at, it was pretty heated. Insert gag. I looked away for a second to see if anyone was coming from either of directions. What am I doing? I'm hungry. I need food. I took one last look. Brittany was now sitting on a desk with a smile snuck on her face. I moved to a different angle and got a look at who the guy was.
Oh my gosh.
No way.
