Anubhav’s jaw clenched. He didn’t like the thought of her living away from him… but after everything he had done to her, if he couldn’t even fulfill her very first wish, then it would question his love itself. He knew how much his girl had suffered because of him. Every time she cried felt like a stab in his soul. He didn’t want her to go away from him, but this was the first step to winning her love and trust by fulfilling her wish.
He looked at her. Her hopeful eyes were fixed on him. This girl always tested him. He remembered how she got comfortable with Karishma and Abhinav, the way she trusted them and smiled at them… he wanted that too. He wanted her to trust him, to smile because of him, to love him… and for that, he needed her trust first.
Whenever he was near her, he felt safe… yes, safety the very thing that was his duty to give others. His country, his people, his family… and his mother.
He had never felt that. This security, these guards, they only protected his body… what about the soul inside? No one ever thought of that. He was always forbidden from that warmth.
But she… this girl standing in front of him made him feel it.
He remembered when she got her periods and he sat the whole night in front of her door. The next time she found out, she threatened him not to sit there and sleep, otherwise she wouldn’t eat… and she slept with her door open, something she never did.
That small, little thing might not have been much for her or for any third person, but for him… it was anything but small. He felt cared for. He felt seen. Even in a room, he was always the dominating one, but when she looked at him… it felt different.
And for her care, for her attention, for her smile, for her trust, for her love… he had to do this.
At last, he said, “thik h.” The moment those words left his lips…
A wide, radiant smile spread across her face, lighting it up completely. In the very next moment, she jumped onto him , hugging him in pure excitement, her happiness spilling over without control. She hadn’t even imagined that he would agree. She had no expectations from him at all. Somewhere, she was sure he would deny it… she had only asked to try her luck.
But when he said yes..
Happiness rushed through her all at once, overwhelming and real and said breathlessly, “Thank you… thank you… thank you so much.”
On the other hand Anubhav's lungs stopped..His soul seemed to slip free the instant she collided into him, arms wrapping around his back without warning. Her small hands clenched instinctively, her face pressed against his chest, her whole weight leaning into him.
And that was enough.
His breath caught sharp, sudden, stolen from him. His heart misfired, then raced uncontrollably, slamming against his ribs as if trying to escape. Every nerve in his body lit up at once, awareness crashing over him in waves. The warmth of her, the closeness, the undeniable reality of her against him it overwhelmed everything else. It wasn't easy to believe..
She hugged him.
His girl… hugging him right now.
The girl who always looked at him with hatred, or never looked at him at all… was LITERALLY hugging him.
It felt forbidden.
Because he had never known this.
Warmth, this kind of warmth had always been absent from his life. Not once had it lingered long enough to be remembered, not once had it wrapped around him like this, unannounced and unasked. It felt unfamiliar… almost unreal, like something meant for someone else that had, by mistake, found its way to him.
