Ally.
Memories about her came flooding back the minute I saw her.
~
"Ally! Come back!" I yelled while chasing a brown haired girl that was wearing a pink sundress.
She stopped and turned around.
She was visibly shaking as I approached her.
"She was a crank. She was a crank. She was a crank." She kept chanting.
"Who, Ally? Who was a crank?" I asked her.
"Mom..." She whispered. "Aris, is hiding in the closet. Mom, is past the gone. Bella is here. And Ally is standing in the road."
"Ally, I need you to stay here." I said slowly.
She nodded, then sat down.
I took off running towards our house.
"I'm a crank!" I heard someone shout from the inside.
"Help!" Aris shouted.
What am I gonna do?
I noticed a baseball bat sitting against the wall.
Without thinking, I picked it up and opened the door to the house.
The inside was trashed.
I could see my mother standing in front of the closet.
She turned around when I stepped in.
"I'm a crank!" She shouted.
She started walking toward me.
"I'm sure you are." I responded.
I tried to stay calm.
"I'm hungry! Got any food girly?" She asked.
"No, but if you look behind the house I'm sure you'll find some."
"Okay!" She yelled.
I moved out of the doorway.
She staggered past me and toward the back of the house.
Aris emerged from the closet and came outside.
"We have to go. Ally is down the road, we have to leave, now." I told him.
He nodded and we sprinted down the road.
Ally was still sitting in the middle of the dirt street when we got there.
"Ally, we have to go." I said.
I tried to get her to stand.
"Mom." I thought I heard her whisper.
"Ally, we're leaving."
"Oh, you're not going anywhere, girly." A voice behind me answered.
I slowly turned around.
My crank mother stood about five feet behind me.
"I want my food, girly." She said.
Then an insane laugh escaped her lips.
~
I suddenly snapped back into reality.
Ally stood there, looking really agitated.
"Ally...calm down." I said.
Her head started twitching back and forth.
A Griever ran out behind her.
She turned and screamed.
It grabbed her leg as she tried to run, and dragged her around the corner.
She didn't stop screaming.
I chased after them.
I turned the corner to find nothing.
Well, except a cliff.
I ran toward it and looked down.
I could just make out the falling figure of my sister, and a Griever.
She's gone.
Thomas rounded the corner.
Tears started streaming down my face.
"What's wrong?" He asked.
I looked at him.
"She was my sister." I whispered.
"How do you know?"
"I just do okay?"
We stood in silence.
"Let's go wait by the maze door." I said after I had stopped crying.
Then I started walking away.
We waited all night, and no Grievers attacked.
The maze doors started to grumble,
I stood up from the place where I was sitting.
I nudged a sleeping Thomas with my foot and he jolted awake.
"Let's get Alby down." I said as he blinked his eyes.
He nodded, then stood up.
He started untying the vines, and we lowered Alby down.
I heard footsteps coming from around the corner.
Minho rounded the corner, then came jogging toward us with Clarissa close behind.
"Where have you shanks been all night? We thought a Griever got ya." Minho said.
"We've been waiting by the door, for most of the night." I answered.
Minho rolled his eyes.
"Guys, help me carry him." Thomas said as he grabbed Alby's torso.
All four of us grabbed him and we slowly carried him toward the door.
"Look!" I heard Chuck yell when we crossed through the door.
All of the Gladers were standing there waiting for us.
My eyes scanned the crowd, looking for Ben.
I didn't see him.
I let go of Alby, and ran through the crowd, looking at everyone's faces.
I still failed to find him.
I ran toward the homestead.
I opened every door, and looked in every room.
No Ben.
I went back to the room he was previously staying in.
There was literally no sign of him.
Minho came jogging in.
"Where is he?" I asked.
Minho looked at the floor.
"Bella...he broke a rule."
"I don't care! Where is he?!" I shouted.
"He attacked Thomas. That calls for a banishment."
It took a moment for the words to sink in.
I sank to the floor as tears stung my eyes.
"Is he dead?" I asked.
"No. We knew that you would want to see him one last time. He's in the slammer."
I stood up, and walked past him and out the door and toward the slammer.
It was obvious which one he was in, it was the only one locked.
"Ben?" I asked the person sitting inside.
"Bella! You're here!" He exclaimed as he turned around.
He looked awful.
He came up to the bars.
"I missed you." He said. "I think about you, all the time."
"Well, for a second I thought you were dead so...."
"Yeah, it's about to come true."
I plopped down onto the ground and leaned on the door to his cell.
I looked at the sky.
"Why did you attack him?" I asked.
"He sent us here. He's the reason we're all living in this place!" He replied.
"But why?" I asked, my voice raising. "You're going to die! How could you do that to yourself!? To me!?"
He shook his head.
"I'm sorry-" he started.
"Don't be! You decided this, it's your problem."
I stood up and started to brush myself off.
As I walked away, I heard him say.
"I love you, Bella."
I turned around.
"I'm sure you do, but not enough to try to stay alive."
Then I turned, and proceeded to walk.

~

I stood away from the crowd, arms crossed, staring off into space.
That's when I heard their footsteps.
I turned, to see two Gladers escorting a sluggish Ben, toward the maze. Where the crowd was.
As they passed me, Ben started to fight.
He somehow made his way over to me, placed something in my hand, then kiss me.
"I love you." He whispered.
A tear rolled my cheek.
"I love you too." I replied.
Then they yanked him back, and toward the maze once more.
I couldn't bear to watch him be thrown in the maze, so I walked toward the deadheads, to try to get some sleep.
I laid on my hammock, trying to block out the shouts for help and the noise of the maze doors closing.
I heard footsteps.
"Bella?" Thomas asked.
"Go away." I muttered.
"I just wanted-" he started.
"No Thomas just stop! This is all your fault! We're all here because of you! Everything that has happened is all your fault!"
The minute the words escaped my lips, a memory flashed in front of me.

"No Thomas! It's all your fault! I hate you!" A ten year old girl screamed at a ten year old Thomas.
"I-I didn't know!" He stammered.
"You told me that they would keep me and my family safe! You lied!" She continued to shout.
"I didn't lie! We're safe from the cranks aren't we!"
"I don't care!" She finished. Then she stormed off.

I snapped back into reality, and it seemed like Thomas did too.
Then I realized, it was morning.
"Did you see that too?" He asked.
I nodded.
"I can't take this anymore." I said.
Then I ran into the maze.
I remembered clearly where the cliff was, and easily found it.
Minho was sitting against a wall near it, eating a sandwich.
"Bella?" He said with his mouth full.
I ran to the opening to the cliff, looked down, and just as Minho reached me, I jumped.
And I fell.
To my death.
