🌷 Tell us a little about yourself and your journey as a writer.
→ I don't really consider myself a writer but more of a learner. I'm still exploring and figuring out what works for me. The journey started a year ago and it's been improving exponentially since.

I began with a story I couldn't quite write properly but ended every chapter with a signature poetic stanza: "Because love isn't about..." Even if shifting towards poetry was mostly a random decision, those stanzas at the end did have a part in it. The signature "Because sometimes" ending in every poem of "If I Were A...?" itself was a recreation of that earlier style of closing chapters.

Someday, I'd like to try writing a story again. Though, I can say I've gained quite a bit of experience now, thanks to The Borrowed Words contest.

🌷 What inspired you to write "If I Were An Umbrella", and "Box of Chocolates" ?
If I were an Umbrella: it started with a random memory. Years ago, my cousin got a speech topic: "if I were a lipstick." She couldn't do it but I thought I can do it. I never really tried back then but when the memory resurfaced, I took it as a fun challenge and since it was a rainy day, I decided to use the same kind of theme for the umbrella instead.

Box of Chocolates: "life is like a box of chocolates" is the first metaphor I ever learnt. I didn't understand it when I was a child but as I grew, life started handing me all sorts of chocolates: some I chose willingly, some I had to chew.

And eventually I think I've figured out what the metaphors meant: chocolates can be sweet, bitter or even made out of clay.

The poem that won for the "Most Heart touching piece" category: "The Sweetest Chocolate" was inspired by a news story about a young woman who spent her last evening laughing with her family, happier than she had seemed in years. No one knew it was goodbye.
